Liddell plans to retire within the next five years. We had a serious discussion at our last alumni chapter meeting concerning who JSU?s next Band Director should be. We plan to discuss our concerns with Dr. Mason because we plan to supplement the next Band Director?s salary. Who do you think should be JSU?s next Band Director after Liddell retires?

Marching Band Director and Director of Bands do not have to be the same person. What about this option?

I would much rather see someone come in to take the marching band who has a marching band focus. Dr. Liddell has a concert band and music education focus and I do not want to lose that just to make the marching band a better unit.

If the DOB continues to have charge of the marching band, it must be someone who can also take the concert bands to the next level.

Why isn't this in the private forum?

~shrugs~

Because we want your input.

And since sooooooooo many of ya'll non-JSU folks, including and especially YOU, know so much about JSU and its band history, why not get your vote? See how you came running to this thread?

I think that my girl Stephanie Sanders should be offered the chance. She was in the Sonic Boom with me. Stephanie was taught by one of the best band directors iand band staff n the nation and gained alot of know from Edward "Pop" Duplessis and Paul I. Adams.

Stephanie had a short term as Assistant Band Diector at Alcorn State University and now currently with Paul I. Adams to help guide Norfolk State University. The band that rock, shocked and took over the 2007 Honda Battlle of the Bands.

You mean the band that stood in place and played music.

Alcorn's arrangements and marching leave a lot to be desired so she obviously did not help them in that department. We need a director who knows how to edit and write arrangements to fit the band, it HEAVY on tradition, chart drills, and wants the band to march. We need to see some clips of WSSU. To be honest, of that list, only Macgruder is qualified.

And to be HONEST since you DO NOT know MS Stephanie Sanders...
You really need to be silent.....................

It is amazing you sit here talking about issues with you DO NOT have a blues clue on..................

You must not know about Gaines and Berry.^^

Co-Sign. I think most folks on the board are too young to remember them. Don't know if James Berry is still interested in being a band director though. I think he is an administrator in the school system or principal in Decatur, Ga. But Frat would be a good band director. Plus he has the flare for showmanship..........remember when JSU went to 3 DMs in 84 I believe and he was the head DM. Those cats started that step forward and put the baton out spin move that the JSU DMs do. He definitely would add some flare. Blake Gaines is a helluva arranger and I don't know what really happened with his career after being Morehouse's Band Director. Somebody said he was at a HS. He has a ton of experience being that he has arranged at JSU, SU and TxSU before going over to Morehouse in the late 80s.

Re: JSU's Next Marching Band Director

Magruder is definitely not the only one who is qualified.

Thanks you Roi!!!!

Tigerpride sitting back running off at the mouth bad mouthing Stephanie. She was like any other Assistant director. You try to help improve programs and the final word always lies with the man in charge.

Why do you think so many assistants in various programs have left......

Something must be going right to Texas Southern, AAMU, Alabama State, UAPB, etc where they DO NOT change their assistant and directors like every 2-3 years!!!!

Except when being offered a HEAD director slot....Some may have left for a BETTER assistant slot..

Tiger G.....

you may want to talk to Dowell Taylor (Sonic Boom 84-92) as well. He is the perfect fit for the Director of Bands job.

Thats the same thing I would say, I could care less who JSU hires as their band director.....

Then don't pay attention to the topic and don't vote.......dummy. If you don't like the topic, then don't read it...it's that simple.....unless....YOU'RE simple.

You could hire another clown like they did in football a few years ago......

Can't agree with your comment, Ms. Sanders did a lot for us at Alcorn. She was a great addition to our program while she was there and we hated to loose her. She brought a lot of intensity to the band not to mention a lot of disipline. Also our marching has lost a lost since Ms. Sanders left but I think we can all argue that everyone feel like most bands have lost a lot when it comes to marching. Arangement, please we all know who help JSU arrangements and Alcorn had better arrangement when Stephanie was there. It's not like JSU arrangements are just great now, and we know what the charted shows look like. Alcorn have a lot to work on and so does every band and I think Ms. Sanders and others that was on that list would be a great help to JSU.
