TP. I sure you meant he will have his "Bell" rung or be dumbbelled". Hughes didn't start off wrong with JSU fans. He had the upmost respect for them. I don't know why you hate Hughes so much. He may not have been a great coach or even shouldn't have had the job. But he was way better than ole arrogant Bell was. Hughes just didn't know enough to be a head coach. Bell was supposed to know more and he acted like he didn't.


Poor Hughes always will be your whipping boy. LC would have gotten that job after Hughes and you wouldn't be on here saying Hughes destroyed the program. LC would have been smart enough to leave well enough alone and keep on winning till he got LC type players in there. I know Hughes personally and man you are way too hard on that dude. He loves some JSU. Wasn't his fault they handed him the job because they went the cheap route. He got the job kind of like Mike Tice did here in Minnesota. By default and he was cheap.

I'm convinced that MD was on to something when he said TP and Hughes had some kind of run in, back when TP was at JSU.
Its obvious that Hughes got the best of TP back then and TP is still trying to get some payback.

"Comegy raised concerns at Norfolk State when his name was mentioned as a candidate for the vacant head job at Jackson State five days after he was presented as Mo Forte's replacement. Comegy put those rumors to rest, reaffirming his intention to take the job at NSU. NSU President, Dr. Marie McDemmond also called JSU President Dr. Ronald Mason, Jr., to confirm that Comegy was not a candidate.

"Coach Comegy told me that he would be loyal to Norfolk State, that he really wanted to coach here," McDemmond told the Pilot. "I guess that's not true. I'm very upset." McDemmond said the school would consider taking legal action.

"This is where I started and this is where I want to end,'' Comegy said at the news conference.

He said he made a decision he thought was best for his family.

"Am I nervous? Yes," Comegy said. "Did I handle this well? No.''

If so, it's the second time Comegy has courted another school only to pull out at the last minute. Last year, Morgan State thought it had an agreement with Comegy to become the new coach there and even sent him a signed contract only to find out Comegy had signed a new five-year deal with Tuskegee. "

1.) I don't dislike Hughes. I think he is a great person but you can't discount what he did to the program. Many JSU alums will back me up on this. What Bell inherited was NOT what Hughes inherited. Yeah, maybe Bell inherited Kent and 4 WR's but after that....NOTHING. The bottom was gonna fall out anyway once the last of Big Daddy's recruits left (Kent and company).

2.) I don't think hiring Hughes was going the cheap route. Several factors played a part including honoring Big Daddy's wish. We had a formula that has sustained us for 30-40 years. We have ALWAYS promoted from within. The difference here is that we normally promote the most qualified person and in 1999, that was John Shannon not a RB coach. We could have hired Shannon and it would not have been any more money spent.

3.) By "Hughes'ed" I meant, he would get ran out of town if was winning or not if he gets on our bad side. Hughes did get on our bad side. Not the extent of Bell but you would not believe the joy when Hughes was fired.

...and this is my 3rd attempt at telling ya'll that we are NOT Norfolk or Morgan State. We are JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY.

:wavey: I thought John Mac would be a good hire. I still like him over Comegy. Just because of how Comegy did the other 2 school. LC would have been my first choice though.

He would have been my first choice too. But I am not trying to help JSU that much. :lol:

I was somewhat split between LC and Comegy. Comegy stayed loyal to a Tuskegee for TEN years. LC's programs were winners somewhat but not to the extent of Comegy's teams and LC's teams crumble.

Mac would not have been a good hire. I still can't believe we didn't interview Shannon.

Comegy's record was a good one just like L.C. would have been if he was at Skegee. Based on the teams Skegee played in the SIAC, even Bell would have been a winner. :what:

I love it when people whose team only beat Comegy's team at TU 2 out of 10 times talks mess about the teams TU has played. He doesn't know that he's talking bad about his own team :jump:
 
Comegy will be just fine at Jackson State because he knows how to be a head coach and he knows how to build a program. McKenzie's resume doesn't suggest he does right now. I am happy with the selection. As for Hughes, he loves Jackson State. Was he a great coach? No. But he cared about the fans and the school. I never felt that way about Bell.

That has nothing to do with all those small schools Skegee play. Just do us all a favor and get out of the SIAC. That's the only reason Skegee feels great, because they certainly aren't thinking out of the box. Skegee needs to get bigger pay days to put lights in the stadium. Sept. games are like blazing saddles at 1:00p.m.
