It's not going to happen! The demand or fans isn't there to justify a 50,000 seat stadium. Good Luck!

Only the administration close to the project knows how much funds have been giving thus far..I have been hearing a few things but nothing I can say thats fully concrete...And saying the stadium wont come to fruition with out having a clear understanding the situation is ignorance at best..Its obvious the homework is being done! I still like a 40K size but we will see!

But its obvious this isnt a remain in the SWAC stadium move and everyone knows how JSU feels about the SWAC conference and those views are growing with the administration.

Actually the seating capacity of the stadium has little impact on the overall cost of building it. If the seating was at 35K it would not reduce building cost enough to justify the reduction. Construction cost are similar whether it's 35K or 50K for this type of project because the building footprint would remain the same.

In speaking with frat who graduated from JSU, we both agree this would be good for not only the City of Jackson and JSU but for the SWAC as well. Also, I know this has been mentioned but you can attract concerts, pre season NFL Games, NCAA basketball events, possibly a small scale bowl game, and other money making events.

To quote Field of Dreams....... "if you build it...."

I love this idea and think it will push JSU to the every front of HBCU's, but Im concerned about the projected revenue. all the numbers seem to be based on the dome being full every game. JSU has a strong fanbase so it might fill up the first year and winning seasons, but does JSU have the reserves to maintain it during bad years when they might draw 15k to a game? I would hate for JSU to build this very nice complex only for the state to step in 5 years later, take over control of it and give those klans in Sippi "I told you so" validation. I hope this is what's best for JSU, I would love to see a HBCU with a complex like this, because other HBCU could start putting pressure on their state government to fund projects like this !! JSU can be the model we all follow !!

It is not just for JSU. The State and City would benefit from it. That's the approach that has to be taken. It would be a win win for all parties. This is bigger than just JSU if done right.

I think a lot of folks get caught up in the 50K seating number... this number is not relevant in the grand scheme of things. A dome stadium will have the same physical footprint regardless if there are 5 seats of 45k seats... the only thing that make it relevant is the type of seating they decide to go with i.e... chair backs, bench, suits, box seats ect.... any combination of this would have a direct impact of the final tally of seating capacity. The 50K number is for accounting and revenue projections standpoint.
So please ignore the 50K seating and focus on the dome itself for that's the real story here..

This is for the state of ms and like greg said, this is not a stadium for the swac....there are bigger things to come if this is done correctly. This website means moves are being made quietly. I am ready for progress.

That's the approach that is being taken. It was layed out that there is no domed stadiums with substantial size in this area outside of the Superdome and Atlanta. Big time musical act have flat out told promoters that the only reason they don't come to Jackson is because there is no modern place to perform in. The same with pre-season NBA and NFL games. The city had planned to build a basketball type arena similar to the one in Little Rock I believe. They took several fact finding trips up there researching. When JSU announced plans for this, the city halted those arena plans and went in with endorsing this.

This project would be JSU's stadium but the entire Jackson Metro and Central Mississippi would benefit from this project.

I like it, hope they put a Walter Payton statue out front

I hope they put him and all the other HOF'ers statues in a walk of fame out front of at the JSU HOF that is included in this project. Would not mind seeing statues of all the former head coaches included also.

I hope they get it  , so SU can come take it over like memorial  .

Imagine how loud it would be in there for that game. Also they could host the SCG and just rotate it back and forth from Houston and Jackson if that is an option.

Do yall really believe we are getting this dome to stay in the swac??? That is like edward waters building memorial to stay naia. Lol nah, there have been talks about leavi.g the swac.

There can be a major difference in footprint from 50k to 35k seating. That is simple engineering or construction. Chop off 15k in seating and the base footing can be contracted.

Yea the Sports Hall of Fame will be on the first floor of the dome so Walter ayton and other greats will be inside there..But I would place a HUGE TIGER STATUE outside the stadium to let people know they are in Tiger Country....

The SCG and SWAC office should be located in Jackson as that is the only centralized location in the SWAC but I honestly dont think our administration cares about dealings with the SWAC Conference there have been discussion about the SWAC Conference and our relationship...Something is brewing! I think the admin. wants to follow the TSU method I just wish that other schools would join in!

Grambling SU PVU TSU and Ala State might follow that train

With the current architectural design, the seating does not matter. The cost structure is in the current footprint. If the design changes, the footprint will also thus cost is affected. So you are correct if the design changes.
