We finally caught up with athletic director Bob Braddy. We’ve got enough news nuggets below to fill a shopping cart …

Bob Braddy chatted with us Friday.
•CORRECTED (5:35 p.m.): The Jackson State-Southern football game this season will be played in Baton Rouge, Braddy confirmed. Southern moved its home game to Jackson for 2009 to draw a larger crowd. It worked, Braddy said. Southern made between $300,000-400,000, but, mainly because of SU fan outrage about losing a home game, the game is being moved back to Southern’s home field

•Jackson State’s 2011 season opener will likely be a home game against a Division II opponent. Braddy said he was unable to get a “money game†with a Football Bowl Subdivision school .......

Good to see they finally decided on a site for next year's game against Southern.

There never was any decision to make, that was just some conjured up urban tail that alot of your street committee wanted to hear nd believe.

We told you all from jump that it wasn't going to happen again, but a few wanted to actually believe Braddy had so much power and influence that he could dictate what goes on in Baton Rouge.

I don't remember that, bruh. I only remember people mentioning how your A.D. said that Southern fans don't show up to games in Baton Rouge, especially the way they travel to Jackson.

We already knew this, most Football Bowl Subdivision schools 2011 schedules are already set in stone.

You might want to check out to smackboard because that's whee it ended up because of that.

But none the less those that bought into that was told that it was going to happen and the only reason that it took this long is because Braddy was trying to talk him into it and he probably would have done it but it wasn't in his control anymore and we have a new sheriff in town

You ought to know him, his last name is a international organization.

I thought Mason was the president of the SU System, not SU-Baton Rouge. He has more important things to focus on than athletics.

Either way, I look foward to traveling to Baton Rouge next falll. We always have a good time down there.

Believe that if you want to  That's like saying He had more important things than athletics when you guys went into the Bell era.

I distinctly remember him calling in the AD to the woodshed on that one

By the time Bell came along, Mason had already cleaned up a lot of mess. Mason went to SU taking on SUNO, SU-Shreveport, and SUBR. That's a whole lot of mess, bruh. Being from NC, I'm familiar with a university system and I have never seen former UNC System President Erskin Bowles interfering with where UNC would play UVA. Mason set yall up to get whooped in Baton Rouge.

Braddy: Tigers likely to open 2011 against D-II opponent
By Ross Dellenger • [email protected] • January 8, 2011

Jackson State's 2011 football season opener will likely be a home game against a Division II opponent, athletic director Bob Braddy said Friday.

Braddy has been trying to find an opponent for the Sept. 3 kickoff to the season.

Braddy said he was unable to get a "money game" with a Football Bowl Subdivision school or another Football Championship Subdivision school because most of those teams' schedules are completed.

Braddy hopes to have the schedule finalized next week. Delta State, a team JSU opened with this year, is in consideration for the 2011 opener, but Braddy said he didn't like the crowd turnout for the 2010 game.

JSU beat Delta State 32-17 in front of 12,655 people, JSU's worst home attended game of the season. That said, Jackson State sold nearly 8,000 football season tickets last season, breaking the school's record for those sales.

Also, Braddy said he's been talking with Ole Miss officials about scheduling a game in Oxford in the coming years. He's also discussed a future home-and-away deal with Florida A&M.

JSU-SU to B.R.

The Jackson State-Southern University football game this season will likely be played in Baton Rouge, Braddy said.

Southern moved its home game to JSU's 60,000-seat Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium for 2009 to draw a larger crowd and more money.

It worked, Braddy said. Southern made between $300,000-400,000. But Southern fans weren't happy about losing a home game. Thus, the game is expected to be moved back to Southern's 24,000-seat A.W. Mumford Stadium.

JSU TE coach leaves

JSU tight ends coach Marcus Hill has left the program for a full-time coaching gig at Arkansas-Monticello, coach Rick Comegy confirmed Friday.

Hill, a part-time coach, will be replaced with someone "in-house," Comegy said in a text Friday.

Contract talks

Braddy plans to meet with Jackson State's new president, Carolyn Meyers, on Wednesday to discuss Comegy's contract and the state of JSU athletics. Comegy is in the last year of his contract. Braddy also said all of JSU's assistant football coaches are expected to be offered one-year deals. He did not mention raises.

I'm from NC and the Aggies usually play their I-40 rivals Winston-Salem State that weekend.

We also don't have room for a home-home game since our 2012 slate is complete. Our options are really just a D2 in Jackson or a Classic at this point.

I agree. We've already smashed Delta State. If we're going to cut a check to a D2, I'd rather cut one to a D2 HBCU that can draw/bring a crowd.

smh who is gonna bring a crowd to Jackson on Labor Day weekend? waiting on that response because I cant think of anybody!

The only school I can think of is Tuskegee. They travel better than most SWAC schools. I remember when they played Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte and they had WAY more fans than the Golden Bulls. TU just makes the most sense. If we don't sign TU, we should go after Albany State.

Really? Y'all better reschedule Delta St.

Tuskegee wont be coming to Jackson because they usually play Miles Labor Day weekend
and Tuskegee doesnt travel well unless they are playin in BHam or against Bama State thats it...I say we play a good opponent that we can beat and call it a day............and JSU/Tuskegee match up isn't that attractive of a game to Tuskegee fans!

Tuskegee hasn't played in Birmingham since 2009 and that Labor Day Classic is usually rotated between Miles and Stillman. CB, I have personally seen TU travel well and take over stadiums in Columbia, SC, Atlanta, Albany, and Columbus. Hell, their Homecoming games have like 25,000 fans in the stadium. If TU joined the SWAC, they would easily be right behind JSU and Southern when it comes to traveling fan bases. Keep thinking that TU does not want to play JSU. They would definately bring more fans to Jackson than Delta State did and they have more of a name than DSU. If we can smash Delta State at home, TU or Albany will not be a threat.
