Jones is fired


So ya'll think McNair is behind this? I could see McNair stepping in if Jones did not pan out but he had hardly any talent and was only in his first year. I don't get the logic behind this. Also, I told ya'll that McNair didn't know Jones..... :emlaugh: Jones was a 5th string WR that probably never saw the field.

The President should not have this go down unless McNair emptied out his pockets.

The president should step in, fire his azz and re-hire Jones. I wonder what Alcorn alums think of this. JSU would be actin an azz! Jones may not have been great but I didn't hear any Alcorn fans complaining. They were patient and hopeful for the future.

It's a good move for ASU though. Honestly he's been a bad choice from the beginning. Here's a brief timeline of just the stuff i've witnessed in person...

- Last December:
I'm watching the evening news and they do a story on this new coach that Alcorn has hired. The first thing he says in this press conference is... "WE WILL BEAT JACKSON STATE"...

Me: Huh... Wow, this dude is clueless... why is he talkin about Jackson State...?

- January:
I'm sitting in Lorman, MS at the Jackson State v. Alcorn basketball game. The announcer says "Alcorn fans let's welcome 45 student athletes visiting the campus today and our NEW head football coach Ernest Jones... Coach Jones have a word please"... *Jones takes the mic* ... "Yea, yea, IT'S A NEW DAY BABY... WE GONE BEAT JACKSON STATE... I can't wait til that cool November day when we beat Jackson State!"

Me: Huh... Wow, this dude is clueless... why is he talkin about Jackson State...?

- November:
I'm standing at the State Capital for the CCC Pep Rally... on a cool November day... and Coach Jones says. "WE GONE WIN THE MISSISSIPPI SWAC TOMORROW" *joins raises in the air a homemade trophy with JSU, MVSU and ALCORN logos inscribed.*

Me: Huh... Wow, this dude is clueless... po alcone.

Jones still has it. Our alumni president informed him "we don't play in the mississippi swac" LOLOL
 
His antics were over the top, but I don't think it was a bad thing for him to say he will beat JSU. He was just trying to fire up his fanbase. In any event, that's not why he was fired.

Honestly, he's hyped cause he left the yard only a few years ago! lol Dude is only like 35.

As a Alcorn-loving alum, I'm not sure why or how this unravelled, but it is truly disappointing. :smh:

Someone, anyone... should have sat down with him before he took the job. He had no concept of (PC) WHAT to say and WHEN to say it. His comments over the last year would have been PERFECT for a locker room, but not for the public. Of course people THOUGHT Alcorn was country... but how does the saying go.???... He opened his mouth and removed all doubt..

No bruh, he was just pulling a Jim Tressel. Since Jones had been coaching in the state of Michigan, I'm pretty sure he heard Tressel call out Michigan when he was first hired by Ohio State. Tressel didn't say nothing about a championship, all he talked about was beating Michigan. There was nothing wrong with that. NT you are reading way to much into it.
 



Seems to me that Jones' antics were simply trying to galvanize Alcorn alums and garne rsupport for the team. I didn't have any problems with him focusing his attentions on Jackson State....

But this whole mess? Sad......


I think the President needs to fire the AD (Hamilton) and reinstate Jones. With all of this mess, how are they going to field a team next year?

Jackson State is the last game on your schedule... You were coming off a 2-win season, we surely should not have been your focus... cause it's been a minute since Alcorn has been ours (no smack).

NT that is the problem. If Alcorn/Jstate isn't on either teams radar then their is a huge problem going on. In state vicious rivalry that hasn't been much of one the last few years. Both teams haven't really been good at the same time in years. We need to get back to being a threat to the Eastern Champs of the Swac. If Alcorn/jsu ain't worried about each other then one team ain't doing its job. I'm all for everything that is going on (as long as the McNairs are behind this.)

Didn't get the whole story b/c I had to get off the phone and get my fresh cut for the Game this wknd.
