Jesse Jackson?s Comments : The Great Divide

A while ago, I was pondering Jesse Jackson?s comments about Barack Obama and the broad picture of the connotation that it entails. This whole situation reminds me of ?Guess Who?s Coming to Dinner?( 1967). In that movie Tillie (Isabel Sanford) said to John Wade Prentice (Sidney Poitier): ?Tillie: I don't care to see a member of my own race getting above himself.? This was in reference to Sidney?s character marrying a white woman. Later in that movie John Wade Prentice had a conversation with his father that summed up this rift between my generation and my grandfather?s generation. In that scene the younger man, Poitier, told his father that his generation was a dead weight on our people. Later explaining; John Wade Prentice: ?You think of yourself as a colored man. I think of myself as a man.?

As much as I have sucked at the teat of the freedom provided to our people by the civil rights generation I find myself feeling that they are becoming a dead weight on us. They can?t let go enough to see that the revelation is being televised, daily. Frankly, I think they resent us for going further than they were able to??.which is odd because they are the very ones that built the bridge with their own bodies and told us to walk across. From Rev. Wright to Jesse Jackson Sr., we have a generation of past their prime leader?s holding on to racial divides that (thanks to hip-hop) no longer exist on the same scale. I always thought Sidney Poitier?s comments were harsh. Now I fully appreciate the writing. Our generation has to fight the racist crackers and the crabs. Dayum!

Just a few thoughts on generational politics??????discuss among yourselves.

As a activest, I have no problems with Jessie MOST OF THE TIME.
The Duke thing is one I had a big problem with from the beginning.:smh:

As a politician, Jessie has alway's been a me and only me person as for who rep's black's on the national level.
That's why I wanted him and all those other fossel's to STFU when this campaign started.

Jessie show me just how locked into the "old day's" he still was the way he acted toward's Obama in this primary.
Him and other black's from that era has really embarrased themselves trying to hang onto the power they got when they saw Hillary was not going to make it to the nomination.

it was sickening to watch. :smh:

To paraphrase the Infamous "EFF Grandad" song on the Boondocks, Jesse's "just mad 'cause his azz is old".

On the real,

There's a LOT of hurt feelings emanating from those who just KNEW they had a monopoly on the "leadership" of Black folks. Jesse, Tavis, you name 'em... and it's really sad. It's called jealousy. These clowns can't get over the fact that Obama came virtually from out of nowhere and galvanized this many people.

None of you aren't really old enough to know jack isht about what Jessie is about. All most of you know is what the media feeds you and that he father a child outside of his marriage.

Wow!! news flash, that's never happen to any leader in the world before. :emlaugh:

You youngster better wake the hell up and get off of your hollier than thou azzes, with ya'll bunch freaky deeky azz.
:lmao:

I think hell just froze over because I actually kinda agree with you. You people need to get right with the Lord because he is coming back soon.

You say we're not old enough to know what Jesse is about, but aren't we old enough to be able to sit back....watch what he does/says...make our own conclusions?

yes, we all know what he has done for our race which is great, but if people feel like he should get a pass on everything simply b/c of what he has done in the past, then he needs to sit down and live off his moments in the past.

Example:
I get tired of seeing him and Rev. Pfleger marching through the streets of Chicago and getting arrested only to protest white on black crime, or even when it's black on black crime...it's the gun manufacturer's fault. That's bullshy.t.

Yes, I appreciate what Jesse has done for us in the past...really I do and I think everyone else does as well.

Dude.
I was born in the 1960's.
I know all about Jessie Jackson.:xeye:

The problem with most of his supporter's is they will rather jump off a 60 story building than say good ole Jessie is wrong about something.:smh:
Jessie has been an embarrasement this entire primary.
No if and's or but's about it.

my problem is how he said it, like a like punk whispering pillow talk to another negro. If you think he talks down to black folks and you want to cut his manhood, be a MAN and say it to his face. I hate 2-faced people, the O'Jays had a song about that, it's called "Backstabbers"......They smile in yo face.............ya'll know the rest.....

Well your old butt ought to know game when you see game. :lmao:

Now just what has Jessie been an embarrasement about this whole primary?

How do you know what his supporters (whatever that means) tell him in private?

In short sweetie, y'all expect way to much out of far to little of the people who ACTUALLY stick their necks out.

Like I said to another poster, if you see a need, why does it have to be Al, Jessie, or the X guy in Houston? Why not get involved and do something yourself.

I have no problem with people having a different view then any of those (wasn't that what Jessie was doing?), but if all you're going to do is complain than you know the old cliche "If you're not working to solve the problem, you're part of the problem".

I love keeping folks honest, but if you're not willing to stick your neck out, then your complaints goes into the same box as those that choose not to vote.

so blue do you think obama is talking down to the black community?

No, I think that he is doing what he feels as a black father is best, and that's the approach that he's taking.

It seems clear to me that he loves his family and takes pride in being a father and that he puts special emphasis on that because of his experiences and that's very understandable.

If you've notice doing the the primaries, he has always seem to stutter when communicating to the public, but in actuality he's carefully thinking his thoughts through so he can be clear, precise and pointed.

That can come off sometimes (because of his educational background) as talking down. Hell Hillary said that same thing (that he was talking down to people) all doing the campaign and no one said that she needed to go sit her azz down somewhere with that nonsense, they just took it as her opinion.

Naw, see I disagree.
I expect folks that stick their necks out to speak the truth. Jesse is not speaking the truth when he's out there marching and protesting. The problem is not the gun mfg, the problem are the thugs that are using these guns to kill other Blacks.

I would love to see Jesse walk up to the gangbangers in the community, after yet another child has been shot, and tell them flat out, "YOU ARE THE PROBLEM". Get angry with the gangbangers.

that's what I'm talking about. He is influential, he does have power, but in my opinion he's no longer using his power to better the Black community when he fails to acknowledge who/what the real problem is in the Black community.

Just b/c you're on tv shouting, protesting doesn't automatically mean you're "sticking your neck out" also.

Jessie Jackson wasn't always JESSIE JACKSON

Blue......no matter how you try to flip it Jesse was wrong wrong wrong. What he said was sick. If he believes that Obama is talking down to the black community then fine. Call Obama up, meet him for lunch and talk about it. Don't talk behind the man's back, say his nutts should be cut off, and then later on shake his hand. All this did was set us back even further and make us look even more divided as black people. Hell McCain vote against the Dr. King holiday and totally ignores the needs of black folks altogether!!! Talk about him in the public. I've had the opportunity to sit down and talk to my frat bro. Jesse Jackson on a flight to L.A. and I have alot of respect for him and the things he's done but his actions makes him even more irrelevant now.

We need more black folks that will step up and point out what's wrong in our community. That's the problem, we've been tricked into thinking we're so well off. No matter if you're black, white, chinese, indian, or whatever it doesn't take a genius to see that the black community is losing......

We agree then. I've listen to many speeches and interviews and not one time did i feel or get the impression that he was talking down to the black community. Thats the reason im like "WTF?" when jackson made that comment. ESPECIALLY the "i wanna cut his nuts off" part. that was a bit excessive.

Like I said, this game is being played way above the rim, and like any great game, you don't really appreciate the strategy or the game until years later.

We aren't monolific and never have been, people disagree with Dr. King. Di it stop the struggle?

As I've said so many times before, this isn't about Obama, this is about God trying to get those in power in America to live up to its promise and stop lying.

So in short, it doesn't matter what Jessie, Hillary, McCain, Buchanan, Hannity or anyone says or do. God has put it out there in the open for all to see, now it's up to us to make it happen

Now just what has Jessie been an embarrasement about this whole primary?

How do you know what his supporters (whatever that means) tell him in private?

yep...........I know game and I grew tired of Jessie Jackson year's ago.

Just about every move he made in the primaries with his lip's clinched on Billaries butt.
Support who he want's, but he all but crawled on his knee's behind them ripping Obama.
Now he's on TV smiling for the camera's talking like a man in the fold but as soon as he thought the camera was off, he turned into the "crab in the barrel" talking about cutting nutt's off.

That second face came out then didn't it.

Someone sholud have cut the so-called "Rev's" nutt's off while he was in front of the church all them year's, preaching about right and wrong while hidding his babies mamma the whole time.

Sorry.
I don't jump in line behind people just because of their name.
I don't follow Jessie Jackson just because his name is Jessie Jackson either.

Damn dude you're way off on this.

Damn dude you're way off on this.

How am I off giving my opinion on what I saw on TV yesterday.
I'm so sick of Jessie Jackson, Bobcat Bob, and any other person that think's it's their god given right to be at the front of the line of power on everything that I'm just about num to it all now.

If this had been Phill Gramm instead of Jessie Jackson saying this, the thread would be about 10 pages of sorry repub mofo this, sorry out of tough redneck that.

If Obama trust's Jessie Jackson after this, he is stupid.
Don't trust Hillary either.

Maybe Jessie's son that work's for Obama can get him to shut up for just a little while.

Laugh all you want to but answer this. Has Hillary ever suggested that Obama be castrated like our ancestors were during slavery? That type of B.S. is worse coming from your own.

Naw..she just hung around just in case something might have happen. We all know what happen to Robert Kennedy in June. :lmao:

Man y'all given the media waaay to much power on this one.

IMO, Barack is trying to be the most powerfulest man on the planet, and in doing so he is open for criticism whether it's warranted or not.

Him being a black man doesn't change one thing, he's still going to have to work four times as hard and be accountable for everything that's wrong in the world.

We criticize white folks for not putting Bush in check and backing him blindly, so why should Barack get a pass?

This is the job that he wants and he is well aware of its pros and cons. I SUPPORT him in it, pray that he gets its and when that is accomplish all that is left is for him to do his job, and take his hits like everybody else.
