Jerry West: LeBron has surpassed Kobe as a player

Bullshat Paxson wasn't Batman's Robin, we all know who that was and just like that same old dumb azz arugument if Kobe didn't lead them than who did and was was Kobe while they were doing it?

Better yet how many championships did they lead the lakers to before Kobe?

IF the Lakers and Cavs meet up in th NBA Finals, the question will be what secondary player will step up to lead LeBron or Kobe to a championship. All of the great teams have had an All-Star or HOF player alongside them.

Dr. J had Moses, Shaq had Kobe, KG, Jesus and "The Truth" did it in Boston, Jordan and Pippen, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker and Magic and Kareem.

For the Lakers it's Kobe, Pau, Odom or Bynum?? For Cleveland it's LeBron and Mo Williams. That will be the key come June IF the matchup takes place and we can end this silly debate.

Negro please, you don't believe what you just typed yourself.

And LeBron has?

Lets be real... LJ was Never on a "ready made" team in a large tv market. Look at the Cavs BEFORE LJ got there.... The Lakers have always been the Lakers...let LJ get drafted by the Lakers and tell me how many rings he would have. LJ has slowly led Cleveland to from the laughing stock of the NBA to the best record in the NBA this year. Who outside Ohio was wearing a Cavs jersey before LJ got there?

Both Kobe and LeBron are great players and there is no need to year in and year out discredit one player or the other just to prove something.

It is like we have gotten so caught up in trying to compare Kobe to Lebron or Jordan or who was the leader of the Lakers during the three championship seasons that we don't appreciate how lucky we are to witness these great athletes in the NBA right now. That is why the debate is silly. It is OK to debate which player is better.

But it is another thing to attempt to tear down one guy to build the other up. I do it, we all have done it. We have to stop doing it.

I bet if Kobe was on the Cavs and Lebron was on the Lakers, JayRob and GR would be lauding Lebron and Kobe would be viewed as just shy of Lebron's greatness somehow.

As far as the question I posed in my previous post, who is the Lakers second star, that is a fair question.

They got to the Finals last season and Kobe was forced to carry the squad against the three headed monster in Boston.

I don't think the Lakers have that guy alongside Kobe who can play consistently great like a Mo Williams alongside LeBron. Pau should be that guy, but he disappears in games. Odom has the talent, but fades as well. I mean, if you put Kobe's brain inside Odom's head, that guy would be one of the best players in the league because he is a gifted player.

Only time will tell I guess.

Lebron is a great player and has all the tools to become one of the greatest if not the greatest of all times. But he is tied with Kobe when it comes to leading a team to the finals and MVP's. Actually Kobe was the missing peice to a Gold Medal and the entire team has credited him with uping their level of professionalism and work ethic. Every player on that team looked even better after the olympics and guess who they all credited for that..

I just don't understand how you guys didn't see how many times Kobe carried the Lakers when Shaq was in foul trouble, on the bench because of hack a shaq or faking an injury. Shoot how many times did Mike get the Finals MVP when Scottie was deserving.

Lets be honest here. If the Hornets never gave up Kobe and he stayed on that team,Would he have any of these rings yall keep bringing up in this thread? I am not trying to discredit him but...just a thought. Those championship Lakers had alot of threats on their team..when Shaq was fouled out..the TEAM pulled them through..not one player or the other. Keep it 100.

Both are great players but no one man can win a championship. If you look through history all great players have had great players playing with them. Jordon had Pippen, Magic had Jabbar and Worthy, Russell had Cousy and the Joneses, West had Baylor and Chamberlain, Garnett had Allen and Pierce, Duncan had Parker and Ginobili, Shaq had Kobie or Kobie had Shaq and so on. Its a great conversation piece and if you like Lebron or Kobie you will argue in their behalf but the bottom line is a great player can't win a championship without a great supporting cast.

The only Finals I thought Pippen should have gotten the MVP was 1996 against Seattle. He played great in that series. Even Mike said Pippen probably should have won the award.

If Kobe was with Charlotte, he would've long ago demanded that they get better players around him, plus the Eastern Conference has been so week the last five years that it's not impossible to believe that he would have lead Charlotte to the Eastern Conference finals before now.
Actually, after Shaq left, he practically carried the Lakers by himself.

Not NARRY ONE.
Let's not get besides ourselves. Pippen is a great player but the 6 finals was MJ's time.
I agree that Kobe carried the Lakers in many of the playoff runs and through some finals and he could very well have been named the MVP (well maybe not the series against the sixers but that was because the refs let Shaq maul deke)
I think both are the two best ballers on the planet and look forward to the league's money matchup. It's going to be good for basketball. And if Kobe declines next year or years to come, then we'll get to see the next money matchup, Lebron and Melo. That hype is coming considering Melo's performance this year with Mr. Big Shot.
Anybody ever stop and think that Jerry West could be just hating? I mean the guy is the logo, so I aint knocking his game intellect, but what's the purpose of him making those statements? :retard:

He knows what motivates Kobe. There's a method to his madness.

He would be just where he is now still trying to get one.

What you think would have happen Magic, Karreem,Cooper and the rest of the crew would have time warp back into their prime and help him out.

Gesh some of you can come up with some of the most irrational logic ever.

The hate for Kobe is painfully apparent. I ain't a Laker or Kobe fan. But Kobe is the best player on the planet. Lebron might be better one day, but not now.

I don’t know if you say LeBron James might be better one day than Kobe Bryant. The guy is pretty close if not even with Bryant.

You don’t see many 6-8, 270 pound basketball players who can do what LeBron does on the floor. The guy is an impressive athlete. But so is Bryant.

The measure of a true player is what can you do for me, not only in the first three and three-fourth quarters, but what can you do for me in the last five minutes of the game when the chips are down. Kobe, Magic, Kareem, Jordan and Bird all have/had that special gift of coming through in crunch time, time and time again.

Lebron hasn't shown that on a consistent basis. He's getting there, but he's not there yet.

all the way to missing the dayum PLAY-OFFS and getting knocked out of the first round and finally getting embarrassed with the worse NBA finals close out game lost..

THANKS KOBE!!!

If Kobe was with Charlotte, he would not have gain the amount of respect he gained in LA due to the attention he got with SHAQ there... Kobe would be look at just like AI and the rest of the good players who can't get er done with out big help....

Lebron has been surpassed Kobe.. It don't take winning rings with Shaq and not being named MVP of non of them to do that.

KING JAMES!

When you put your team in situations to run through the play-offs winning all games by double digits.. how much closing out do you have to do? You just can't accept the truth..

There goes the little angry band guy. I don't know what Kobe did to you but it must have been bad. LOL. Have you ever thought about becoming a professional heckler? Sorta like the old nut who used to heckle all Washington Wizard opponents.

<insert picture of Robin Ficker> LOL.

Poor dude has flunked out on all of his picks so far. First he picked Utah to beat the Lakers, then Houston, he then chose New Orleans, then he chose Boston. Now he's relegated to licking Denver's gonads, hoping for a win.

Keep it 100 as you say
If the Hornets dont give up Kobe, the Lakers dont win any championships from 2000-2002.

What you guys dont realize is that Shaq was a big fat lazy bum when he was with the Lakers. He never came to camp in shape and sometimes he even got operations he knew he needed right before the season instead of after the season so he could recover in time. Do you guys know who carried those teams until Shaq got back? Kobe did.

The phrase was always, "Shaq says he is going to play himself into shape."

Everybody on the team was committed but Shaq. Can you imagine paying someone 20 million dollars and he dont have enough respect to come to camp in shape? Jerry West should have traded Shaq before he left so he can be somebody elses problem just like he is now.

Shaqs lack of committment was part of the reason Kobe/Shaq had a riff. Kobe was all in 100%, but Shaq was complacent and lazy.

Hey Jerry

Can you say that Carmelo is better than Kobe so Kobe can drop 60 on that ass tmrw???

Thanks in advance

Laker fans

Jerry is only saying what true Lakers fans want to say.. they rather Lebron in LA than Kobe...

Thanks Jerry for speaking for the true Laker fans..
