Jay Walker says Southern, Grambling, Texas Southern are taking too long to name a coach

I think Jay called the Harding/Lenoir Rhynes game last Sat.

Maybe next time you have him on you could ask him about the feasibility of some of our schools changing our offensive systems to something like the Flexbone like Harding runs. Or a more pro-style offense. Anything but the spread bs everyone is running.

I've long held that the spread all of our teams are running is one of the main reasons we see so much bad football on a weekly basis. Especially at the QB position. I believe most of these coaches, FBS included, don't even understand what they're doing.

That Harding team is tough, fundamentally sound, and very physical. The way they looked I wouldn't be at all surprised if they'd beat a good many of our schools if we were to play, and badly. They blew Lenoir Rhynes out last week and will play for the D2 championship this week. They set the rushing record last week, rushing for over 5000 yds this season. I believe the commentator said they switched to the Flexbone back in 2010. They had losing seasons in '10 and '11, but they've been rolling forreal ever since and haven't had another losing season.
Harding beat Colorado Mines by 38-7 with that flexbone option attack. However, I wish our schools could hire coaches that runs West Coast Offense, Perkins-Erhardt system and Coryell scheme..

Dooley to Grambling is chess. They’re trying to gut SU team while securing Louisiana talent. Most the guys on SU are Dooley recruited. This is a tactic hire IF it’s true. I mean the man did go to a swac championship twice since 2021. He just can’t be a head coach and OC at the same time. This is just about his connections and recruiting. That’s it.

I saw. And didn't just beat em, but beat up on them.

But to run those schemes you named you have to have those kinda QB's, and I don't know if the coaching is just bad or we just aren't getting those kinds of QB's.

I know with the personnel we had at State this year we would've done well to run a flexbone type system. We had a good line and a stable of good backs and were weak at QB. We lost more than we should've cause we were running the spread and trying to run the offense through our QB.

In my opinion...coaching...

Dooley doesn't know H.S. kids like that. He's a portal guy. Mickey says he will go 85/15 high school in his recruiting.

None of our players liked Dooley though 😂😂😂

What value does McNair bring to Texas Southern that has led them to draw out their coaching process like this?

What are they seeing from McNair that will set them apart?
btw I know my answer but I'm curious to see what other people think.

Mac a good coach man. He pushed that second Prime team to the brink on the reservation with a big talent gap. That man has been consistent with getting the best out of his players. No complaints here. I do wonder how much that crosses over to a new program where his name is not royalty but buddy can coach.

Things can get political and cause disruption at my TSU. What should be a pretty standard process can turn into drama over night and draw processes out longer than normal.

With that said, McNair played his part in drawing this out also.

Why McNair, He is the safe hire in my opinion since watching TSU football since i arrived on campus in 1972. In my opinion Dr. Granger could have swing for the fences on a hire like Grambling did with the pro coach a couple of years ago or even this time with Joseph. But McNair can go 8-3 or 7-4 in this conference. When i think about it i like the choice. Lets get it done. should be a joyful time and everyone felling excited but BOR gets into their feelings or pocket books. Not a good look.

I think that's the issue when this thing got to the public - if he was the choice you rush this thing through and get to work but all these reports about negotiations back and forth started to drum up interest

That's why you never let media know things in some cases as they can blow it up and cause feelings to be displayed as it looked like Alcorn took it to heart

But obviously some folks who never cared at first with power woke up just quick enough to observe and all hell broke loose as they now started questioning things and killed the quick process

If I'm McNair and I'm still hired - what's going to be my mindset when I arrive? A man who has to keep looking over his back ain't a man you want to deal with which creates tension

if they go with someone else who wasn't the choice of the ad - how will that relationship play out over time as that person ain't gonna be reporting to a board member on a daily basis - they report to the person who didn't recommend them on a daily basis - drama

Only way you can justify even doing a celebrity hire with no experience whatsoever if that hire comes with a something so major that you gotta step back and say ok -

So sTu yall gone do Mac Like That?

Dayummmm
Keep ignoring how much Mac dragged this out if you want to. For whatever reason he didn't understand that Houston is not Lorman. If you draw a process out too long politics will enter and cause disruption.

I initially thought Mac was taking long to commit because he wanted to stay at Alcorn, but now I'm thinking his play was to see how desperate my TSU would get.

I intially thought Mac
That’s a fair point.

I feel he brought it on himself though trying to use the sTu job as a bargaining chip in negotiations in Lorman.

Those are two different types of money, access, etc.

I will take a guess that I thought about as I was wondering the same thing. Recruiting in Texas, especially the Houston area. Alcorn seems to get a number of good players from the Houston area.

Initially most of us had not considered that part of it, but eventually we took notice. To that extent, you're right. You're probably hitting the nail on the head with what the search committee saw.

Brave,

I'm still waiting on your thoughts. Weigh in please, you all know more about McNair than any of us over this way.
