A Jackson State University student will be featured on Sunday's episode of "American Idol," living what he calls his dream of performing on television after years of hard work to achieve it.
Deshawn Goncalves said performing on "American Idol" still feels pretty surreal, but he's excited to see his audition air Sunday.
The 20-year-old said he decided to try out for the singing competition after thinking about the past opportunities he'd had to perform, including performing at the Apollo Theater and briefly joining Patti LaBelle on stage during one of her concerts to showcase his singing talent.
"What prompted me was just thinking about how things just always continue to come my way, like blessings just continue to pour in," Goncalves said. "So it's kind of like, when I'm doing these things, like if I've come this far, why stop now?"
