During moments of uncertainty like the COVID-19 pandemic and the omicron variant have presented, it can be difficult for universities to maintain the status quo, especially for those with low-income and under-served communities that are struggling to make ends meet.
The pandemic has created a perfect storm of challenges, from exposing the disparities in access to technology during forced distance learning, to pushing health care inequities into the public spotlight, to testing the limits of everyone’s mental health. But, in times like these, institutions like Jackson State University have a responsibility to advocate for our students and to prepare for the future.
