Jackson St home field

Maybe we can take a page from the SEC and put it in Atlanta. Even though that's not conference territory, I don't think any of the fans will mind the extra drive to ATL.

BTW, I love Jackson, but Birmingham is a better choice for the SCG.

The mess about the effect of the Band Extravaganza on SCG I is BULLSH*T. You can look at the head to head matchups between JSU and Southern and see that the game can stand for itself. That's BS. lol. The truth and the whole truth is that the guys in the SWAC OFFICE should hope for a JSU - SU matchup every year for the SWAC's sake.

I agree with you. But some people have attributed the first championship game's attendance to that. I totally believe that even if they didn't have that, it would have been a good turnout anyway

Birmingham has lost its initial effect on me, and I have become disenchanted with the "Magic City" As far as the SCG, this is not the city for it. I'm not sure about ATL, with the flop of the Heritage Bowl and all. I would like to see it somewhere else. the only reason I would say Jackson is because people come to SWAC games in the 'Sipp. I would like New Orleans most definitely or even Baton Rouge. But believe me, B'ham aint it!

It's ridiculous for you folks to "act" as if the band thing had no effect on attendance at the first SCG!
:smh:

I don't think it weight as heavily as you think. If that was the case, I believe more people would have been there. Not that many fans stayed to even watch the band extravaganza.

MH, why didn't the Hornets bring more people to the SCG, considering there are quite a few Hornets here in B'ham?!

Now in saying that, I agree other SWAC folks were at SCG 1 for many reasons. Reason number 1 was because it was SU vs JSU. Number 2 , it was the 1st SCG and the bands were there. I bet out of the 47,000 folks that were there which I think there were more like 50k, but thats another story, anyway I bet there were only 5-7 thousand other than SU and JSU fans there. The other 40 were evenly split between both schools.

:smh: This is beyond _ _ _!!!

Mach,
So you think it it was 10k plus of other folk there? Please. SMH

So you are saying that there were less than 15-20 k fans each from JSU and SU?

Now I know you don't isht. There was more blue and white and blue and gold than a little bit.

If that ain't the case then answer me why the SCG can't even draw 40k ? I'll tell you why. The people of B-ham don't give a ufck about the game. It aint marketed right. So at this point unless the schools with the biggest draw don't play it has no crowd. The MCC it aint. I bet if Bama St played SU in the SCG there would be a draw or if we played Bama A&M. But neither of those schools will outdraw SU vs JSU especially when both schools are on a roll. Heck even in the rain in 01 Memorial still had more fans than the SCG 3.

Now, I know both SU and JSU can't always be there. But we (the SWAC) got to figure out what to do about getting them cheap arse local focal in B-ham to show up. Maybe we need to get Rueben arse to perform or something. But unless the local community gets behind the game like the CCC in Indy then the SCG will fail just like the Heritage Bowl.

Mighty Dog is right about alot of people's budget is limited to going to see their team so that 's why I say the game itself has to become a must see event like PV vs Grambling. Aint nobody but a few folks interested in the actual game. But it draws because it is an event and has been marketed right and the regular black folk and HBCU alums in Dallas show up to the game as well the PV alums who may not go to another game and the GSU alums who don't go to the games outside of that one and the BC. So even the so -called fairweather fans show for that State Fair weekend. When I lived in Houston, I knew PV fans who didn't even go to the campus or H-town scheduled games but would drive their arse to Dallas every year. Why, because they had more than that game to draw them in. It was an event.

That's what the SCG has to be able to do. Draw the fans out no matter who's in the game. It has to become a must be at event like the BC and MCC. The Band extravanganza is not the only solution either. Not everybody cares about the band stuff. Usually the draws the young folk. What about the big money spending older folk like MD.:D We need their arses at those SCG's.

JR,

If Grambling or Bama State or some other schools had been in SCG I and had 47,000 in attendance, they wouldn't be trying to say that all those people came for the extravaganza. Damn near everybody left after the game was over. There were definitely some fans there for the band deal, but ain't no way in hell more than 5000 to 7500 came to see them bands. The overwhelming majority of the fans there were from JSU or SU. You had the two best schools and the two best bands guaranteed.

So, Machiavelli and mighty hornet. Make me laugh and give me the estimate of how many y'all think were there.

Of the schools that have played in the SCG, ASU had more fans than anyone. So, you may wanna rethink the question.

rob,
As for SCG 1, you're outta your mind if you think that most of the fans just left after the game and didn't stay for the bands.

JR,
You're wrong to think that ASU/SU wouldnt draw more than SU/JSU would in Bham. Just think, ASU/Gram drew 38K, with no SWAC band competition and the "nolvety" of the SCG had worn off. With the band competition, the newness, and JSU/SU, SCG had 47K.
Surely, you're not suggesting that a band competition with SWAC bands couldn't pull in 10K on its own merits, when high school band competitions pull in 40K-50K alone.

Sponsorship is the key to the SCG. Attendance in terms of real dollars is great, but I don't think the sponsorship will be any better in Jackson, Houston or anywhere else.

SCG, is more than a Saturday event. It is surrounded by several key events, which can be quite expensive for the majority of our fans. You know and I know that most folks are not going to spend money on hotels and attend the entire SCG events if their team is not in the game. When we talk about the SEC those folks have the income to allow them to do what they do. When we talk about promoting and marketing our target audience is not going to fill up Legion Field.

I have been to ALL of the SCGs and AAMU brought more fans than the Hornets! Puh-leeze man!

Marketing is the key. I think it would help significantly, wherever you hold the event. But even with that, I still don't think B'ham is the best city for the SCG.

You shole is right MH. But they want people to believe that 7 of the 10 swac bands could only bring 5 to 7K. The BC B.O.T.B. draws 30K, the S.E. Regional B.O.T.B. had more people than JSU's homecoming did the day before. That b.o.t.b. was on a Sunday. Along with 5 or 6 high schools the bands were Valley, FAMU & JSU. Valley and JSU did the same show as the day before but people still came. But what do I know.

If the SCG needs a band competition just to draw 40K, then we don't need an SCG. The game has to be able to stand on its own.

and there isnt a high school BOTB in America bigger than the one in Birmingham at Legion Field every year. It is going to have about 45000 every year.
