Study: Blacks and women talk and text more

By PETER SVENSSON
The Associated Press

NEW YORK — Blacks talk twice as much as whites on their cell phones, and women talk and text more than men, according to an analysis of wireless bills by the Nielsen Co.

The media-tracking firm went through the phone bills of 60,000 people for one year to figure out that blacks talk an average of 1,331 minutes per month, compared with 647 minutes per month for whites.

Whites were the least talkative people in the study, which ended in May. Hispanics talked 826 minutes per month, and Asians and Pacific Islanders 692 minutes per month.

This isn't because blacks talk and whites text. Blacks text more too: 780 messages per month, compared with 566 for whites. Hispanics text almost as much as blacks, at 767 messages per month. Asians and Pacific Islanders text the least, at 384 per month.

One reason blacks talk more on cell phones may be that fewer of them have home phones, but this hardly explains the whole difference. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 25 percent of black adults had only cell phone service last year, compared with 21 percent for white adults.

Well all you do is see these women talk on their cell phones. I mean 6 am going to work they on them phones. 4 pm headed home they on them phones. I don't get it. Who wants to talk on the phone at 6:30 in the morning? :smh:

Well part of this study damn sure didn't apply to me cuz I hate talking on the phone. Now, I will text up a storm...

Cee, I go to work at 3 in the morning. There's always a handful of females walking to the building already talk'n on the phone like they've just been up all night...:smh:..:noidea: Two of them, it's like clockwork.

Who could you be POSSIBLY talk'n to this early? And, give me the phone so I can ask whoever's on the phone "why are they up on the phone at 3am?"

If your are always talking, you likely arent talking about anything, but talking. If Black women spent as much time putting something in their head as running their mouth, we would want to talk to them more often.

I sure hope they didn't spend much money on this research cause it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out!!! If African Americans are the #1 consumers in the country, why would they be 1st is cell phone minute usage as well? Word of mouth is the greatest advertisement and we damn sure know how to advertise other peoples shat!!!

We do. That's why many women have the multiple degrees, own properties, have their own businesses and drive finer cars.

And ya'll ain't got to talk to us. What you won't do, another will. :)

I couldn't have thought of a better time to use a word I haven't used in quite sometime:

Dayum straight.

Oh, and I think I'm one of the few who don't talk on the phone much. Anyone who really knows me knows that I barely answer my phone. I think I'm also one of the few who make it a point never to be on the phone while shopping, or when I am making a business transaction (cashier line, the bank, post office, etc), mainly because it's rude IMO.

Well Run DMC did say "I say you talk to much, home girl you never shut up" :emlaugh: I mean it is crazy how these women just be running their mouths all day, everyday. They already can't drive, then they be driving, talking on the phone, yelling at them bad azz kids and almost causing 10 accidents a day. Get off them phones!!!

Same here. I just text a lot.

Man, women be trying to pull that threatening crap. :shame: I will tell em quick, baby I am not a brother with low self-esteem.

My rule is..."I never let a woman hold puzzy over my head". And, that includes everything under the puzzy umberella that leads to puzzy. That includes conversations with built-in trap doors.

Where did any one single out black women? This is my biggest gripe with southern black women. Yall always gotta be the victim. The article stated women and comments were made about women. No one singled out black, white or what ever women. Stop playing the victim. That shyt gets old.

a lot of shit gets old...that hasn't stopped you from continuing it...

And if the shoe ain't fitting you...stop trying to wear it...
