In Memphis, where do us folks...

If you didn't know, Memphis is predominately black. So we will be seen all over the city. Try Pure Passion and Ebony Lace. I only go to the strip clubs in Memphis, the regular clubs can get dangerous. Don't forget Beale Street.

BTW, the casinos in Tunica, MS are only 30 minutes away. Listen to 97.1 and 107, and they will tell you the hype spots.

snickering at Blue Bengal

Not everybody in Memphis Gambles or go to strip clubs. If you want to visit a good church during your stay, you are truly welcomed at Oak Grove M.B. Church on hwy 64/stage road. We have 2 services on Sundays 8 & 11 and 2 bible studies on Wednesday at 12 & 7.

There are a lot of good BBQ and down home eating places. I recommend you try Leech Family restauraunt downtown on Madison Ave.

For sightseeing, go further down to Beale Street/Peabody place (You shouldn't have a problem finding things to do there). Yes in Memphis, Black folks are everywhere.......,

Thinking...

~~Wondering will Jag DH run into Blue Bengal & BulldogM.Ed.23's friends in the same places? "Hey didn't I see you last night at Passion? O.K., I thought so. What page is this hymn on?"~~ :D

LOL, Big Dawg if we are honest, yes you can find church folks where we shouldn't be.

Once, my Pastor really clowned in the pulpit because someone called him and said there was someone in the casinos in Tunica wearing one of our Church t-shirts. However, we found out that there was another church with the same name as ours in Tunica so it probably wasn't one of my church friends (I hope).:D

ROFLMAO...

Thanks for ALL the info folks. Guess I'll have to roll the dice and hope I don't crap out!

BTW, kinda new Memphis was mostly us, but that doesn't mean I wanna hang out with crack heads!

Thanks again!

LMAO :D

You must visit the National Civil Rights Museum. It's located at the hotel where King was shot. If you go to Memphis and don't pay your respects to those that came before us, you should be ashamed.

Part of the Underground Railroad in on Second Street.

The Lorraine Hotel as stated earlier.

The Pyramid

?where exactly on Second Street is the old URR Station located?

I am starting to put together (in a very informal manner) info on the URR for a possible future project.

Latest on Memphis!

Just got back today! Had a great time!

Hassan!

A stop to Slavehaven/Burkle Estate will give you a feel of what occurred on the URR. Cost of $5 adult/$3 children. There was some info there that was questionable, but I let the sister tell it as she learned it.

Stopped at the Pyramid to see the Ancient Egyptian Exhibit. Really nice, but long. Can get boring for those of you not into looking at these type of artifacts. Can last for a couple of hours. Cost $13 adults/ $8 children.

National Civil Rights Museum was the BOMB!!! Many things that I personally forgot about were noted here. My little one (10 y-o)actually finally figured out why folks didn't just kick the KKK's arse! Really graphic photos (the one's we all have seen by now) of the lynching in OK and the burned corpse. The Mahalia Jackson rendition of Precious Lord kinda depresses the hell outta folks when you finally make it to the Lorraine, but the effect is for real!! Cost FREE after 3pm. Sounded good to me!

Visited Alex Haley's boyhood home of Hennings, TN. 45 minutes North on Highway 51 (Danny Thomas Blvd, by St. Judes). Cost $2.50 Adults/ $1 Children. If you have some time to waste, this is not really a bad ride, but cops are all over the place, so slow down to the speed limit.

Beale St. was just as I anticipated. Blues everywhere! Us folks doing our thing and enjoying themselves in the process. Ate at the Blues City Cafe. Had some pretty good ribs.

Simple facts about Memphis:

Some of the better, more modern hotels/motels are in East Memphis.
Carjackings are up. Target vehicles appear to be SUVs.
You can ride your butt off on the trolleys if get a day pass.
It's a cheap, cheap vacation...

unless you spend too much time in the strip clubs!!!

BTW, they are gearing up for the Southern Heritage Classic, so JSU fans...get yo money ready!!!

A lot of people like to go to Denim and Diamond on Saturday and Sunday. They don't usually go in. They JUst floss and stunt on the 2 parking lots. You might also hit Jilians. Like the other person said, go down on Beale and eat some ribs at Rendevouz. Make sure you hit that High School BotB at Whitehaven. You might want to check out Crumpy's or BJ's for some wings. Or Tops, Pollards, or Kelvins for some BBQ. I can't think of anywhere you should stay away from. I heard there is a hotel somewhere that's supposed to be kinda dangerous, but I can't remember which one. Probably off Airways somewhere. I also suggest you participate in as many of the offical Classic events as possible.
