Two of my potential dissertation committee chair members are leaving the University and will not be able to serve on my committee. So now I have to search for two more....provide them with information. And dayum near kiss they ARSE so they can be on my committee!!!! Furthermore....these committee members were supposed to be on my Comprehensive Examination Committee...since they are leaving and the fall is next semester I have post pone my exams until the SPRING of 2005!!!!!!

I tell ya....God made this so perfect...gave me a lot of funding....TAX FREE by the way....allowed me to float through the program....but now...the MONKEY WENCH!!!!

Don't worry. You'll find replacements. Use the delay to do something constructive amongst the pillow wearers.
 



Ask the ones who are leaving if they can recommend anyone, or offer you any assistance.

Questions: Does your university allow people to serve on a committee who are not employed by your university?

One of my classmates has a committee member who is a faculty member in Utah. She was here and left to take a job in Utah. He really wanted her to remain on his committee and they were able to work it out.

Maybe it can be worked out where one of them can still serve on your committee.

In my case...these are the two resident committee members besides my chair. You are allowed 2 others. I am utilizing the director of the non-profit agency...The Louisiana Hemophilia Foundation....and chief Physician of the Louisiana Hemophilia Foundation.

That is really messed up.
 
You have to take charge and get it done. Same as pledging. You cannot wait for them to do it for you. Document everything. They don't really care it is up to you. Provide the committee with everything and keep stepping. Don't show a sign a weakness. Tell the Department Chair what is going on. People do leave or retire during the process and this common. In doing your research, I am sure you have seen some sorry dissertation.
 
Just keep thinking about how close you are to the beautiful P.Hd....It'll all work out for you...Just another stepping stone to your success!!!
