I am a house head to the fullest, house and old disco. If you are into, sign in here so we can share stuff. If your favorite Patty Labelle song is "What can you do for Me" or "Music is my life" you definitely qualify. Or if you know artist like J. M. Silk, Lollita Holliway, Robert Owens, Colnel Abrams, Blaze, Addonis, Ten City, Jamie Principle, you in here. DJ's like Ron Hardy, Tony Humphies, Farley, Timmy Regisford, you in here.

Every so often, I go digging in the crates and do a mix, and would be happy to share with true house music lovers.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, then you don't know what you are missing.

"This is the house Jack Built"
"House Music, All night long"
"Music is the Answer"

*Ntelekt Checking in..*

Lewis,

I am DEFINITELY an Old School House and "Disco Soul" (aka Deep House) Head!

Man, I grew up on that stuff in the early/mid 80's!!!
For us, it was the DJs who set it off. For the most part we really didn't know the artists, but we sure did know the songs!

"Move your Body"
"House Nation"
"Jason's Watching"
"You used to Hold Me"
"Love Can't Turn Around" (this was like an anthem back then)

Living in the "ChicagoLand" you dayum near had no choice! :)

I remember going to "The Rink" on Sunday and getting our House on.
Them House dances were the joint...and if you couldn't "Jack", you wunt doing isht!

Soon after this is when House started going into different direcitions...:uhoh:

You then had your Dance, Techno, and that Trance stuff. :smh:

To me, House kinda made a bit of a comeback in the early 90's with hits by Cajmere (Brighter Days), the Percolator and "Hot Music" by Soho (another "anthem"...) :D

I now look for Deep House stuff by people O'jays, Evelyn Champagne King, Diana Ross (Love Hangover), etc.

Nowadays, it ain't the same...so you gotta resort to the vintage stuff...

Yeah man, I use to go to Res (Ressurection - Ricky Lenoir). That was the first place I heard Ronnie play Acid Track and Lil' Louis Play "I Got Man My Man" and my hearing hasn't been the same since. Go to the Bismark(sp) to hear Lil Louis. And This is pre-'87.

Hold up. I got to go to lunch because I'm going to need some energy to complete my comment.

Ooooohhhhhhhhhhh Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Folks just don't know!!!!!!!!!!
"Thank Ya Thank Ya, Thank Ya Thank Ya. You Saved My Day"- Cheryl Lynn

Patti LaBelle - "Get Ready: I'm Lookin' For Love"

I too remember the hot lunch mix on WBMX. Yeah that's right.

I have always been a fan of the beat trax.

I still have my tape collection, recordings ranging from 1980 - 1994.

By the grace of god, I grabbed mp3 from the old napster. I was able to obtain entire songs and some radio recordings.

I'll pull up to a red light booming "Godfather of House", I thump those bass lines and beat tracks.

I have an mp3 cd in my truck with nothing but house on it.

Do you all remember when they would play a MLK speech and mix it with a beat.?

NT, did you ever go to the Warehouse, too????

I rember a couple of cuts that Inner City had back in the late 80's: Big Fun and Good Life. Those were some good cuts, too. :)

OH yeah...what about Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" ????

That's some good stuff!

I pledged to love Music because I love music.

It's go to know Reading, Writing and "Rithmatic" but you still need to have something too read and write about feel me?

Sylvester was GAY as H@LL, but his songs were the sh@t!!!!!!

"I need you"

"Disco Heat" (Byron Stingle did a remake of this)

"Do ya Wanna Funk"

On www.deephousepage.com

they have original WBMX Hot Mix Five mixes you can listen to in the mixes archives.

Also Chip E (It's House) has a documentary that will be available on dvd in a few months that give a history of house music from the Chicago perspective. The culture as well as the music.

Currently there is a DVD out called Maestro that put's an emphasis on the pre Chicago days in NY. The bulk of it deals with Larry Levan of "The Paradise Garage" It's cool. I'm not mad that I bought. But they do play the music in it though. They played "Martin Circus" (Ain't that the sh@t) It's a 2 dvd set. It has like 20-30 minute interviews with Robert Williams the owner of the Muzik Box and Frankie Knuckles.

Yeah man, I'm older than you. Yaw dudes on here still shorties. I still can't believe that "Love Can't Turn Around" by Farley was a number on song in England. That song was of cool though. They just played the F@ck out of it in '86. It had some nice bass though. All those songs did. That "No More Mind Games" was smoove too.

But my song for Fortitude is: Seven Ways To Make You Jack by Hercules. :ebrow:

Okay, Fort gon' come in here and cause problems for you...:D

Okay how can you all talk about house music, the 80's and not include "I need your love' by Jamie Principle. Remember his other classics "Bad Boy", "Waiting on my Angle" and Ride The Rhythm.

I remember when my boy did this mix of the beginning of Two Tribes and It' House (reverb version), oh my god it was sick.

Man, Yall naming some cuts.

BTW, You Don't Know is by Serious Intentions. I got about 5 versions on that song on 12".

I used to love "I can't turn around" I have the orginal Issac Hayes Album, I have the Farly version, and 2 different JM Silk version, one of which is an instrumental piano mix with a pic of JM Silk on the label and that one is AWESOME.

Some of my all time favorites

"Caught up in a one Night Love Affair"
"Down to Lovetown"
"Don't know if its Right" - Evelyn King
"Is it all over my Face"
"All I Do"
"I'm every woman", "I know you, I live You", "Clouds", "Any Love" - Chaka Kan
"Aint no mountain High Enough" - Joyslyn Brown
"Devotion" - Ten City
"Time Marches on"
"Like This" - Chip E ==> "Moody"
"Let's Get Together"

I can go on and on.

I never been to Chicago, but I lived in the New York Area for many years and was around during House music biggest years . I was a Club Zanzibar regular when Tony Humphries was there. I would go in the booth and learned a lot from him about DJing. I also when to the Paradise Garage, and listened to Larry Lavan.

I have looked all over the net without anyluck. I will ask one of you:

Do any of you have "I'm Strong" (remix) by Fingers Inc.

I have the original in mp3 format but I can't find the remix.

Yanno...I never heard Isaac Hayes version of "Love Can't Turn Around"...

I got 2 copies of the orginal album with his pic on the cover. I'll record it and post an MP3.

Man, SETEM" OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll give it to Detroit, in the early 90's when I use to visit, JLB with Kim James wasn't playing on Friday and Saturday nights. 96.3 was cool until they changed their format to grunge. I hate to give Detroit their p's being from Chi, but they put out one of the the top three house songs of all time:

STRINGS OF LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Ryhtem is Rythem (Derrick May).

Whew, no words to describe it. we were in denial for months about that song not being made at the crib.

This thread ain't goin' nowhere, just ain't got the time to dedicate to it right now.

Yup, it has a big picture of a cookie on it. I think I can't turn around is the last song on side A.

If I do a house mix, who is down for a copy of it????????????????????
