Unfprtunately, the SWAC does not see it like that. If a city is going to bid for the Bayou Classic, what does that tell you about it?

IT DOESN'T TELL ME ANYTHING SPECIAL ABOUT HOUSTON. WHAT CITY WOULDN'T WANT 40 MILLION DOLLARS PUMPED INTO THE ECONOMY IN 3 DAYS!

I am at both TSU and PV events if it is within my means. However, the idea that there is not a central site for major SWAC events irks me. Your dealing with black folks from across the south so location has to be the key.

Isn't Jackson the SWAC's most centrally located city?

Yeah I would think that Jackson was the most centrally located city... but you talk about entertainment in Birmingham... WHAT THE HELL is in Jackson. Huntsville has more entertainment than Jackson. Jackson doesnt even have adequate shopping malls. Last time I went there I went to some hole in the wall club, that everybody else said was "jumpin". For ME I would rather be in Birmingham on 1st Avenue where I can pick which club I want to go to.

Have you been to Houston or small town Mississippi is all you've seen? You probably think Birmingham is a metropolis. You stated you've never been to other tournaments so you probably think that was best event the SWAC ever had.

All I got to say, we have a place for the SWAC Tournament to go if they ever come to their senses and rotate out West.

I rather New Orleans or Biloxi but if they bring it to Houston they'll be treated like Kings. We have numerous facilities of all sizes for you folks who get mad about empty seats on ESPN (RIP).

We're a basketball state also

SAUCER....PLATE....WHITE

PRAIRIE VIEW, TEXAS.

uh, I don't live in Prairie View. But is only 40 mi. from Houston. You can get city life with a country twist at PV.

I wonder why the SWAC took away the "super revunue producing" Cross country championships from PV anyway?

I hate to say, but the tournament should stay in Birmingham. I've been to the last 8 out of 9 SWAC Tournaments. I didn't go last year because I was mad they move the tournament to Birmingham. I just got back from the tournament and I had a great time. I know the arena is smaller than normal, but what I liked about Birmingham is some of the A&M fans showed up to the finals after they loss in the semifinals. Normally, when the team you represent loses those people go home with their team the next day. It seem to me the people of Birmingham supported the tournament too (not just State and A&M fans). The semifinals sold out and the finals the next day was almost a sell out (5,400).

I agree with TSF.

I was asked why I was at the game on Saturday. I said, I support 1. AAMU, 2. ALSt and 3. The SWAC. I have been to every SWAC Basketball Tournament since AAMU joined the SWAC because I support BC Sports. I don't have a love for the SEC, ACC or any of these schools. I watch them if I don't have anything else to do. It would not make a difference where the tournament will be held some folks are not going to show up.

I enjoyed meeting all the SWACPagers who showed up. We saw some great basketball games during the tournament and I enjoyed them all.

The SWAC need to hire a Commissioner to move forward. We cannot continue to allow old ideas to prevail. B'ham is a great place, but some events have to be developed. We need a person who can get things done and stop blocking certain things. It would be great if individuals would communicate directly with your ADs to find out what is going on in the conference.

The semi finals was a sell out.

I encourage everyone to call your AD to find out what is really going on. It is not the B'ham site.

Has anyone ever considered awarding the host site to the team with the best divisional record! It's something that we might want to consider. Here's what I would do...

We have a East and West division. The team with the best record in each division not only gets a bye, but also serves as the host of that division. Every team in that division plays for the right to be the divisional representative. Once the division is won, have the men and women teams play the championship game in Birmingham on Saturday afternoon.

that makes a lot of sense to me. I like the idea EXCEPT... some teams would be at a disadvantage... Take for instance this year... the top 3 teams in the SWAC were all from the EAST. MVSU and JSU were 5th and 6th. That would mean that PV which was an overall 7 seed, would be a 2 seed in the West bracket and that wouldnt be fair.

WHAT THE HELL is in Jackson. Huntsville has more entertainment than Jackson. Jackson doesnt even have adequate shopping malls.

DaHill,
Now while I agree that Jackson does not provide entertainment for folks. I know you can't be serious if you think Huntsville has more. BTW North Park Mall(North Jackson) and Metro Center(W. Jackson) is better than any mall I saw in Huntsville. And before you say when was the last time you been to Huntsville. Well I have visited there the last 3 years and before that during my NASA days in Houston.

What I think most people are saying is that they want more stuff to do during the Tourney. Similiar to the BC. I actually like B-ham, and I am not advocating my hometown of Jackson either. Houston and New Orleans have the most to do. We've tried Dallas and it didn't work. Now with that said, I agree we can't argue with the free stuff we got from B-ham. But we can upgrade and get sponsors and try to get the local folks to come out, not just Bama State and AAMU fans, but the average Joe Blow. I keep hearing how we can't even get on the level of the CIAA. Well we can. They just have people that know how to organize it. Before they moved it to Raleigh they were not at this level. Heck they even got a website for their tourney. Well planned and thought out. The SWAC should be ashamed. I usually try to attend the tourney no matter where it is. But I must say we have alot of work to do. I say don't move it until we have a good deal, sponsors, TV, and some well planned out activities in place. Houston comes to mind. I get tired of New Orleans raping me. If it's done right and marketed to the locals and tie in the local HS's with some type of promotion/events to get kids and their folks to come out too. It may work. Just my thoughts

tbf, Houston is not kind to black organizations coming into its City.
Those of us who have booked large groups understand this process. Biloxi did not give up anything, they expected us to bring them money. It has gotton worst over the years. If B'ham is willing to provide free space, the other cities will have to do the same.

MB, I saw something similar tried in the SIAC and it did not work. However, the Div2 had a rule that you could not host back to back regional playoffs. AAMU requested to host it again the second year. We were awarded the back to back, because we made money. There were standing room only in Elmore. I believe the current structure will work. We need the entertainment package to go with the tournament.
