How Many SWAC titles Did Your school win while you were in school?

J-State Tiger

Senate Candidate #7
Lets See.... While I was at JSU in football we won 2, Basketball 1, Baseball 3, Womens B-ball 1, Golf 4, Womens Golf 4, Xcountry bout 2.

How many titles did your team win while you were there? Mighty Hornet, JR Please respond.

Don't too much about the other sports, maybe someone can help me out I was there from 96-00

Football they brought home (#3) which is enough for me...
;)

Well smart azz, lets see here. Since I was there doing the Avery Johnson/Kevin Florent days we obviously won a couple of titles in Basketball. Baseball is a no brainer. I would have look to see how many. But I am sure of 1 title. But I see where you are going with this. I can say we (SU) was one of the few teams to beat JSU in the mid 80's(84). But we won no SWAC titles in Football. I am almost positive we won a title in every sport except Football and maybe golf. Even our Tennis team was hella.

So JST don't try to call me out with your young azz. You had nothing to do with those JSU titles, no more than I helped Avery win in Basketball. I'll be back with some actual stats soon. Besides Football in the 80's JSU was garbage in all the other sports pretty much. I didn't pay attention to golf so I don't know. Baseball was the only other sport you even could stay on the field with SU. SMH@JST trying to call me out like we didn't win no type of championships at SU during my time. Your attempt to smack me is futile. Don't be mad at me because JSU has not won a SWAC title since you were in school.

OK Mighty Hornet handle your business. JST done called us out.

1974 Grambling, Alcorn State
Only SWAC loss of the year...Doug's first year as a starter.

1975 Grambling, Southern
Interim SWAC commissioner (SU faculty member) ruled that GSU had to forfeit the scheduling mixup game with PVU. Announced ruling just prior to the game...bad decision (GMEN tapped the azz)

1976 Alcorn State
Reloading year...Braves were too much for us in Shreveport in the opener. Braves were swarming like bruhs at a chicken barbeque

1977 Grambling
The GMen were loaded this year. Despite losing the projected starting running back and fullback (announced the week prior to the first game), we rolled to a 10-1 season. Coach Rob went to a passing game with future SuperBowl MVP, Doug Williams!

Alabama State's was in it's SWAC INELGIBILITY period during my era. 82

We would have EASILY been BASKETBALL CHAMPS because we were always at the top of the conference during that period.

In football....we got a taste of what SWAC football was all about. :D

Cant recall the other sports like tennis, volleyball, etc.

JR JR JR.... All'z I asked was a simple question. You didnt have to get all defensive. I didnt know when you graduated from Fouthern. All you had to say was you didnt sniff a football title while you were there, and as a consequence, you are not used to anything.

Greatness was Everywhere!!!!!!!

1969...........Alcorn St., however the G-MEN sent NINE to the Pro's.
(Re-building year for Gram after winning title in 1968).

1970...........Alcorn St., 10-7 loss cost us the title. Tigers went 9-2.
(Season ending win over Cal. State-Fullerton**kickin' PWC's butt way back then)

1971..........GRAMBLING, Matt Reed was fulltime qb, had two rb's with 700+ plus yardage(Eldrie Turner & Lee Fobbs)

1972.........GRAMBLING/ JSU, G-MEN played twelve games and ended with 10-2 record. Beat Buffalo 26-13 but loss to Alcorn 6-9.
(Still was moppin' up PWC's: Hawaii(47-6), Nevada-Reno(37-3).

I think I'll start a thread about your schools record against PWC's
:)

Hey JST,
Now you know you have read my signature and know exactly when I was at SU, so don't go there. You are just trying to validate your time at JSU. Since this is the SMACK board, you are being sarcastic. If it was on the SPORTS board, then it would be just a normal question. Not a loaded one. It's all good though. We made a couple of trips to the NCAAs for basketball during my time at SU. So all was not lost. I know what a SWAC title feels like. Next time you visit the Mini Dome just look up at the banners from that time. No Football titles thanks to a certain family member running the ball at JSU. But hey I was in school during the Rice- Totten , great Alcorn team in 84 and the beginning of JSU's undefeated run under WC. And of course Eddie Rob was still ...............well Eddie Rob. But at least I am not like some JSU alums who recently graduated and never saw a win against SU. You know the ones who came in Fall 96 and graduated SPR 2000. That 0-5 must hurt. So does your smack include your fellow JSU alums that were there during that drought? Just asking?

JR you were only singled out because you made a point of asking 96, how many titles he won in school. If you cant take the heat ova hea, try small talk or Meac fans where they put up with s_ _ness.

I didnt read your sig to know when you graduated, but I knew that if you graduated in that period from 1961-1992, chances are you hadnt sniffed a title.

Normally, I bypass all of these history-loving threads, but since JST asked me to respond, I will

When I was a senior at The Alabama State University, the HORNETS went UNDEFEATED in football and won the SWAC title.
We became the first SWAC team to win a postseason game since 19?? :D and the first 1AA team to win a bowl game.
We were unanimous bcf champions. I don't think another 1AA bcf team has gone undefeated since that time. I can't remember who won the 1AA championship that year, but whoever it was should consider themselves VERY lucky they didn't have to face the HORNETS.

A remarkable team, A remarkable year!!!!!
:tup::tup::tup:

Thanks JST for bringing up this topic.
:emlaugh: :emlaugh::emlaugh:

JST,
I can handle the heat. Remember I am from the ole school. I am not as sensitive as you younger folks. I can handle my time at SU.
Zero Football titles. Seems to me that SUtrp 96's time at SU made up for our lack of wins during my 4 years. But I see you working. Still avoiding my original questions on why haven't Mafia predictions come true? What is the problem? I just want to know why GR's predictions are Beano Cook like. Can I get an answer? I'll be waiting over..........................................................>here.

He avoided this thread like Lil Kim does church. But finally he came in....He said more than I thought. I surely thought his statement would be shorter than peach fuzz, but at least he faced the music.

Way to go MH...I was starting to take away your cool points.

My Turn

82-86

FOOTBALL - 1984 Undefeated SWAC and National Black College Champions (only loss came to LA Tech in 2nd Round of 1AA Playoffs)

You are right JR, my time there made up for EVERY year in my heart.....

People don't watch Southern and think about 97, 98, 85, 81. They think about SOUTHERN aka SUperior, SUpreme busting natural azz right then and there.... And thats something me, JR and any body from any year can hold their heads up about even the folks at the SOUTHERN campuses in Shreveport and New Orleans..

It's SOUTHERN people talk about, not 1997 SOUTHERN, or 2001 SUpreme. And I do believe my degree as well others such as JR degree read SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY

That is the whole point of time, you are supposed progress. Just like family, the generations before you may not have had the opportunities you have today but they can hold their heads up and be very proud because with out them there would have been "NO YOU". The same applies with our BIG FAMILY at SOUTHERN.

It seems to me TIME has been to good to JSPOO. Looking at yall time line, it kinda reminds me of a family that was once wealthy, gave the kids everything and the kids didn't appreciate it. Now look at them today, LOW LIFE BUMS, DISGRASE TO SOCIETY, GOOD FOR NOTHING....

JSPOO haven't done anything in the past 6 years to make no one proud!!!!!! So why are you fools talking so much NOISE!!!!!!!

You want everything?

Well, Southern University and A&M College 1997-2001

Football -- Two SWAC Championships, One SCG Championship.

Baseball -- Four SWAC Championships (out of five), Four NCAA Tourney berths, One win against UL-Monroe

Basketball -- No Championships (Two title game appearances)

Bowling -- Two SWAC Championships (of three total)

XCountry -- One SWAC Championships (MEN)

Track and Field -- One SWAC Indoor Title (Women), Two SWAC Indoor Titles (Men), One SWAC Outdoor Title (Men)

Volleyball -- One SWAC Championship (First SWAC team to capture automatic berth to NCAA's)

Alright Frat, gonna have to call you out on this one. Don't come on here with that 2nd round isht. That was by virtue of a first round bye that you received. Thanks to yall, I lost a $25 bet and had to endure a lot of isht talk from some LaTech "house nuckas" I know...

Damn Que

Everyone who knows BCF knows that it was a set up for a rematch of Alcorn and Valley (who LA Tech beat the week prior)

Biggs, the bye for being No. 1 in the final NCAA rankings.

Give McNair the Defense from the '83 and '84 teams and the Alcorn and the SWAC would have a NCAA 1AA Title.

I actually think the bye week hurt the Braves. That really was a good team, but early turnovers took Casem out of his game plan.

Tech had a better team than many realized and the Black players
(I knew several of them personally) was really hyped for this game.

Are you gonna reimburse me the $25 I lost?:D
