How do you feel about the MVP Trophy.....

I actually think Brees did a decent Job during the game, but the kicker was ridicquelus (Field goal and the Onside kick) and porter's pick-6 was the play that broke the horses leg....

I think they shoulda had TRI-MVP or one of the other two shoulda won it out right because of their impacts on the game. But what do you think?

I too think Brees did a hellavu job.. but that kicker saved our ass..... we needed him for every field goal he kicked and they were all long ones...

If they'd given it to the kicker, I wouldn't disagree. But Brees had some sick numbers. He was a surgeon.

I think we are only giving this a thought because of the horrible season all kickers had this season... it used to be common for kickers to makes those kicks...

Kickers rarely used to miss back in the day unless it was a pressure kick...

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees might be the Super Bowl XLIV MVP and coach Sean Payton will be lauded for his gutsy second-half onside kick call.

Kicker Garrett Hartley should get a game ball and maybe a bigger diamond on his championship ring as well.

That second field goal might have been the second biggest play of the Super Bowl (aside from Tracy Porter's 74-yard interception touchdown return with 3:12 left in regulation and Payton's onside kick gamble), considering the Saints failed to score on fourth down deep in Colts territory nearly 90 seconds earlier, when it seemed the tide was shifting.

Hartley's final make of the night was a 47-yarder to cut the Colts lead to 17-16, as the game was heading to the fourth quarter.

Maybe without those nine points, New Orleans is not celebrating its first world championship.

Getting in position to even kick a field goal is apart of the offense game plan..

I give Hartley a lot of credit...The main thing I commend him for is being able to boot some long ones... but the league needs to get back to expecting these kickers to make more kicks than what they are making...

It was several big plays..

The defensive stop right before half...

Of course the on-side kick

The intercept....

The 2 point conversion....

Hartley is a rookie, right? That kid got ice water in his veins.

In every game, there are hidden moments that determine victory or defeat that don't get mentioned in the boxscore or during the immediate breakdown following the contest.

While New Orleans Saints defensive back Tracy Porter's 74-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter was ultimately the deciding play in Super Bowl XLIV, there were four plays that had a more significant impact.

Pierre Garcon's second quarter drop.

Every wide receiver drops a pass in a big game. It happens. However, Garcon failing to secure a perfect Peyton Manning third-down delivery near midfield with 8:23 in the second quarter halted the Colts' momentum. The drop also led to a New Orleans score to cut a then 10-3 lead to 10-6 by halftime when it appeared the Saints were playing on their heels during the early stages of the game. Following the incomplete pass the Colts only ran six plays the remainder of the first-half as New Orleans offense controlled the clock and gained confidence.

Indianapolis failing to convert on third-and-one late in the first-half.

After the Colts' defense stoned the Saints on four downs just feet from the endzone, Indianapolis took over with three timeouts and a chance to at the very least make New Orleans use their compliment of timeouts leaving them little time to score. Getting the ball back with 1:49 left in the second quarter the Colts ran three plays only running 46 seconds off the clock. The final play was a run by little used running back Mike Hart that netted no gain on third down.

A 46-yard punt by Colts punter Pat McAfee to the New Orleans 44 was just the field position Drew Brees needed to march the offense down the field in five plays that setup a Garrett Hartley 44-yard field-goal.

Mike Jenkins fourth quarter touchdown saving tackle.

With the Colts in possession of the ball to start the final quarter, and on the cusp of adding to their 17-16 lead, Manning dialed up a second down wide receiver screen to Austin Collie at the Saints 30. With Garcon securing his defender down field, a big gain was in the making. But Mike Jenkins evaded an offensive lineman to break up the play in the backfield resulting in a loss of three yards.

Manning's fourth quarter incomplete pass to Collie.

Following the three-yard loss on an attempted wide receiver screen the previous play creating a third-down-and-11 at the New Orleans 33, Manning tried to hit Collie on a seam route in the endzone.

The pass was broken up by Saints' linebacker Jonathan Vilma who chased Collie 30 yards down field as part of his Cover-2 responsibility to break up the pass. Colts kicker Matt Stover then missed a 51-yard field goal attempt that would have given his team a 20-16 lead. The Saints went onto score the final 15 points of the game to seal a Super Bowl win.

Yeah, but Brees had to get us in scoring position on each of those possessions. 32-39 (with one drop by Colston and one spike) passing is phenomonal. Especially with no picks and he got rid of it quick to avoid sacks. Brees was the MVP in my book...others helped but he was the man last night!

I agree with you here...

MVP stands for most valuable player.... Not most valuable "PLAY"..

You right about that... He had the play when he downed the ball count against him as an incompletion as well....
After the first drive... Brees was ready... It really took Colston and extra series to get his mind right..

And like Sean Payton said.. he should have been the MVP of the league as well...

He proved yesterday his numbers weren't better than Peyton's by mistake...

That entire team looks to Drew Brees... that dude comes to play. He's their Leonidas...you see it in the pre-game. But on the sidelines, that dude seems to always have his helmet on ready to go. We call him Cool Brees but that dude is all Fire inside. But seeing him patiently move the chains and make the plays via the short game, yet keeping the Colts off bay with "deep enuff" throws was just masterful. Helluva job!
