Honda Suggestion..... Band Superbowl

This is a spinoff of the Honda attendance topic on the 5th quarter.com. I do believe the Honda can be succesful it we move it to different cities like the Superbowl. Choose cities that are HBCU friendly have a sizeable black population. Keep the current selection process but to add some flavor the host state/region sends one or two bands automatically. That way you pull in more fans to come and support the home state/region bands. People also would not get burned out if they knew it was there only chance to make it to the the event. You could also get cities to put in bids to host the event. That way the event could ultimately get more money and do more.

2009-Atlanta (Clark Atlanta, Morehouse)
2010-Houston (Prairie View, Texas Southern)
2011-Wash DC (Howard, Hampton)
2012-Orlando (BCC, FAMU)
2013-New Orleans (Southern, Grambling)
2014-Atlanta (.....,.......)
2015-Dallas (Pine Bluff, Texas College)
2016-Miami (FAMU, Ed Waters)
2017-New Orleans (Southern, Jackson State)

I think you all get the concept. But I think this format would really add some appeal to the event. One proposal I would make is pushing the date back to limit the impact of Winter Weather. And secondly, would might have to reconsider places lile DC who have open air stadiums. That would leave us with Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans, Dallas, St. Louis, Indianapolis. The Florida cities could work because generally the weather is nice.

Thoughts?

See this is why I hate the internet. Yall done planned all the way until 2017. :shame: Yall ain't even ready for next year, how the heck you gone be ready for 2017. :shame:

Honda/BOTB could make some good money in cities like Detroit and Chicago. There aren't any HBCU's there but there is a SHYTLOAD of HBCU Alums.

Most Black high school bands in those cities (if not all) are trying to do what HBCU bands are doing...so why not bring it to the Midwest!?!

Good point. Especially Chicago. The only downside is the weather. Detroit has a closed stadium so it would work there. I would say Minneapolis because folks up here would be glad to see something different. Meaning the white folks would be all up in there. LOL.

I think maybe even out West would work. Just would be expensive. That is what you have to be careful of. How far the bands would have to travel becomes an issue.

I think they have had too many BOTB lately and even the HS levels are involved. So a venue change outside of the South may work. But it would take some planning.

LOL @ Cee Dog. Bruh you tickle me. :D

I remember the following year we recorded the Viking theme song "Skoll Vikings"... Shat we did more recording for the Vikings crab week than anything else that entire crab week... I ain't want to see a trumpet after that week... And it was mainly because of that viking theme song...lol

Venue needs to stay right where it is. Aint no different than a classic..........its always gonna be in the same place. After all, the Honda did start in ATLANTA. Why give it to another city? The attendance was low because of the caliber of bands participating. Not only that, people want more than just a halftime show.....

.......with that being said, the Hall of Fame BOTBs will soon take over. Just sit back and watch...........

Since we're discussing it, then let's REALLY discuss it..

I think it's a good idea to explore the possibility of moving the Honda around. Yes, it started in Atlanta and yes, it has grown into a regional/national event. But like any other event, it will become stagnant over time and lose some of it's appeal.

Moving it may be easier, if it were moved for multiple years at a time. An example would be, the Honda moves from Atlanta to Houston. If it only moves for one year, it'd be harder to secure the hotel space needed, as well as the other ancillary things. But if was moved for two or three years, then the promoter has greater negotiating leverage when booking hotels, buses, etc.

Yanno?

But I say if there's a demand to move it, then move it?

If not, leave it alone...

#1 ...the attendance was not low....sheesh! Also, I am sure that even with maybe 10K fewer butts in the seats, the $3 increase made up for it.

#2 You have to consider the expense of moving it from Atlanta to Houston. MOST of the invited bands are from along the EAST coast. Moving it to Houston would drastically increase expenses.

THE Logical One has spoken!

Well, the Hall of Fame BOTB's is just a cheap rip off of the Honda. I know for a fact that will never take over. If that would have been the case, the attendance would have been enormous, and would have been able to hold the event in the Dome, but most people in the Atl realized it was just a cheap imitation of the Honda, and thats why it was not a big deal to us in the Atl.
