More than 160 middle schools, high schools, colleges, universities and professional track teams will take the field at Durley Sports Complex today on the campus of Texas Southern to compete in the 56th annual TSU Relays.

Competition begins at 9:30 a.m., with the college/university field events and preliminary running events.

High school field events and preliminary running events begin at 1:30 p.m. All throwing events will take place at Rice Stadium.

More than 2,000 athletes will compete at the TSU Relays, which run through Saturday.

Among the local college squads in attendance will be Houston, Rice, TSU and Prairie View A&M. Some of the top area high school teams will be competing, including Eisenhower, whose boys team set a national federation record in the 800-meter relay at the 2006 Class 5A state meet.

Tickets are $15 for each session and can be purchased at Durley or by phone (713-313-1954).

This is one event that I've always said I will got to before I get to heaven. Texas So. relays along with the CIAA basketball tourney.

It is a great experience!!!

This was the ultimate decision on me attending Texas Southern. To see over 1,000 athletes warming up on the infield, Carl Lewis, Leroy Burrell and Santa Monica Track Club and the newly crowned US collegiate record holders in the women's 4x100 Texas Southern meter relay running on the track.

Glad you got confirmation! :)

Say dude.... I am Texas Southern track & field.

Notice the avatar. That is the "Flying T" that we wear on our chest. I am founder of the team's Flying "T" foundation (official booster club for track team) as well as a 4 year team captain.

I assumed you were being facetious but you just never got to the punchline, so I wasn't sure. There has been no publicity here about it.

Hey, no harm, no foul. Just trying to be helpful, and I didn't see another thread alerting people about it.

Matter of fact I only found out about it because it was mentioned at SU alumni federation meeting.

Well come out and support your jags and look me up out there. I won't be hard to spot, I'll be out on the track with delock (he'll be wearing his Alois Blackwell sucks t-shirt).

No doubt! I just left the campus and its buzzing already. This should be a great recruiting tool.
