Lloyd Carr apparently is set to call it a career at Michigan.

According to a source close to Michigan?s football program, Carr is leaning toward retiring as the Wolverines? coach, PA Sportsticker reported Tuesday.

A formal announcement could come as early as next week, after Michigan closes out its regular season against archrival Ohio State.

A Michigan media relations spokeswoman denied the story, saying, "These are all rumors, just rumors."

The third-winningest coach in Michigan?s storied history, the 62-year-old Carr has received intense criticism in recent years for the Wolverines? shortcomings in big games.

Michigan has dropped its last three contests against Ohio State and has lost five of its last six meetings with the Buckeyes, who posted a 42-39 victory last year in a showdown tabbed as the ?Game of the Century.?

The Wolverines also have endured well-chronicled postseason struggles under Carr, losing each of their last four bowl games. Carr is 6-6 all-time against Ohio State and owns a 5-7 career record in bowl games, including 1-3 in the Rose Bowl.

They don't recruit Detroit or Chicago well which are 2 big cities that are close. Every since Tressel got to Ohio State. He closed off the North part of Ohio. Cleveland and Akron. Before Michigan got the likes of Elvis Grbac, Charles Woodson and Desmond Howard who are Ohio boys from Cleveland.

If this is true........then it will be interesting if Les Miles makes his way back to Ann Arbor.

This is hardly surprising if it turns out to be true, I said after the debacle that was the Appalachian State game that this would be his last season regardless. Everything was set up for him to walk away. One last shot at a national title, he redid all of his assistant coaches' contracts so that they were guaranteed through next season. He redid his contract so that he would get paid as some type of consultant in the athletic department. I knew they would never fire him, and anybody that understands the inner workings of the Michigan athletic department knew that too.

JR, I wouldn't say that time caught up to him, they still get highly ranked classes, they just don't develop them. They still get Ohio talent, Crable and Manningham are both from there. He's a lot like Pete, he's loyal to a fault, especially with assistants. If he does step down, it's going to be interesting, especially if we can't pry Miles away from Baton Rouge.

Frat, Michigan can buy LSU itself. LOL. That's how deep their pockets are. They have Ford, GM, Chrysler and Kellogg's money at that school. 1.5 million is chump change. They make more than that at one home game. LOL. So if they want Miles. Their rich boosters will give him the money to pay LSU off.

Yep he has accomplished more in a way than Bo did. But Bo was there so long and of course is an Icon there. Bo actually never had the success Woody Hayes did at OSU. What Bo could do is beat Ohio State and that is why Michigan fans are mad at Lloyd. They got used to beating Ohio State with Cooper as coach and even with Earle Bruce coaching Ohio State. Bo lost bowl games just like Carr. Actually Carr just started getting beat these last few years in the Bowls. He started off pretty good. But the last 4-5 years have hurt him not to mention the 0-2 start this season.

LSU is set for the next 3 years with all of the talent they have. The only thing holding Miles back is that he's too conservative.

You're never "set" in major college football. LSU could've easily lost 3 games by now this year and who knows what will happen next year. Don't get me wrong, LSU should be very good for years to come. But those guys expect to compete for the national championship every year. What happens if they lose another game this year and then lose 2-3 next year - which is very possible in the SEC?? At Michigan, he gets a clean slate for at least 3 yrs and an easier road to the championship.

Why not leave. Michigan is his Alma mater. Less pressure........better chance to run the table and get to the National Championship than in the SEC. Plus Miles knows he aint beloved by them La folks. They will turn on him in a NY minute.

So you think Miles cares about coaching in the SEC over his alma mater? Who can pay him big money. All he has to do at Michigan is win the Big 10......beat Ohio State more than he loses to them and he is home free there. At LSU there is no promise that they will dominate the SEC year in and year out. In the Big 10.......as long as Michigan can recruit well......they will be in the hunt. Aint like Iowa, Wisconsin, and others will be consistent threats to the Big 2 in the Big 10. Even Penn State is no threat to them. So nah man......Miles would be smart to take the Michigan job and leave LSU. Talk about job security. Hell Miles is one loss away from LSU fans wanting to hang him out to dry now. LOL.

Kids are already at those schools from the South. Michigan is a household name. So sure he can recruit speed to that school. Hell Tom Brady was from San Fran and went to play Qb there.


Don't let the Florida game against Ohio State skew you on if kids will go to play in the Big 10. These kids will go if they are going to be on TV, play for a title and the Big 10 can offer them that. Every kid can't go to Florida. Not to mention there is plenty of track speed in Cleveland, Chicago, and Detroit. You just got to get it on your team is all. Zook is doing it at Illinois. Getting those Chicago kids to stay home and getting kids from other places. So yeah with the connections that Miles has made in the South and in the time he was at Oklahoma State, I am sure he could recruit way better than Lloyd Carr could. One thing to remember about cold weather schools attracting players. Tom Osborne did it at cold arse Nebraska. Had plenty of Cali and Florida players on his team. Can you say Tommie Frazier. You just have to get out there and sell the program. I notice Tressel has dipped into Ga and FLorida as well. So it can be done. Miles actually would have a leg up on the other Big 10 coaches being that he has been in the South for awhile. Michigan used to get kids like Leroy Hoard from New Orleans. Mercury Hayes from Houston..., Anthony Carter from Florida....etc..

Exactly. You have to coach them up. Ohio State actually had a faster team last year than the one that met Miami for that title. That Miami team was also faster than Florida's team last year and had more NFL products on the field that game than Florida did last season. Tressel just coached a better game against Miami than he did against Florida. Not to mention it is so much easier to coach a team who is an underdog than it is when you are the favorite. Urban Meyer flat outcoached them in that Bowl game.

Man Michigan makes more than $1.5 million at their damn Prep Rallies. Get Real. We about to kick out over $200 Million dollars to upgrade the Big House. That doesn't even include the $26 million dollar indoor practice facility that is about to get built.

Michigan has and always will get talent, I think the issue has been developing talent. Michigan has fallen way behind in the speed race defensively. There's plenty of speed and talent on the offensive side of the ball, but the philosophy is past its time. Week after week, teams with speed on offense run by this defense. It's like they've cornered the market on getting 4 and 5 star recruits and figured out a way to slow them down.
