You say that now, but this time last year (and the year before, and the year before and the year before) you were predicting big things for jsue. So much so that a championship was "unavoidable"

MH,
A couple of days ago you told me that I should try to keep the smack talk limited to the present, but every time I turn around you talkin' about what happened last year and the year before and so on. But the truth is, YOU are the one living in the past three years.

C'mon, this is a thread about Linebackers, but you haven't mentioned jack about how the Bamas look on D this year. Are they good? Are the bad? What? All you have to say is how much you hate JSU and how you beat us the past three years, but guess what? You still finished dead last in the East. Last!

Now as for myself, I'm looking ahead. We've got new coaches and new schemes. What do you have besides the first soap opera ever set in Alabama? Every week it's something new. Now is the current enough for you? C'mon, tell me about your linebackers- have their transfer paperwork came through yet?

I honestly think that Mighty Hornet doesn't know the names of any of his players (besides the ineligible ones the Josh Moon keeps reporting about).

Sad, but true.

Its bad when the only news you get about your team is bad news. Such and such and so and so got suspended or got his scholarship ripped. Its sad.

But all mh can talk about is JSUs magnificent talent.

MH,

I just thought our talent could win 9 or more games in spite of Hughes. I was wrong.

sorry tiger06,
I'm just so used to the NONSTOP bs from jsue folks that I didnt know you wanted a response. And since you appear to have a lil more sense than the typical jsue goon, I'll oblige you this time. (but for the record, I don't hate jsue as you say. I simply pity jsue. That's all)

Simply put, after a year under a new defense with a boatload of underclassmen (there were actually games where no seniors were starting on defense), the defense should be rock solid, with a lot of experience. since the thread is about linebackers, Remember the name Carlton Baker. This guy will be ALL-SWAC. It's amazing the things he was doing on the field last year as a freshman. But the strength of the defense will be the dline!!!!!!!!!! LOADED

for the typical jsue losers,
Just imagine, the defense that shut you down and destroyed your offense in Mobile was a whole lot of underclassmen.:eek:

IM NOT SAING TH EDEFENSE WAS GARBAGE BUT THEY WERE WEAK!!!LB WAS THE ACHILLES HEAL .MCNEESE SHOWED ME THAT EARLY AND THEN OTEH TEAMS LIEK SU, PV AND OTHERS/ I USE TO SAY ROBERT TAYLOR WAS OVERRATED WHILE AT GRAM.YEAH RIGHT!!!!HE WAS UNDERRATED AFTER I WATCH LAST SEASON DEFENSE. HE WAS A BEAST IN THE MIDDLE IT WASN'T NO RUNNING THE BALL ON GRAM. LAST YEAR IT WAS RUN OVER HIM RUNOVER THEM .I HOPE THEY FIND A PUNTER SO YANEZ CAN FOCUS ON STOPPING SOMEBODY FROM RUNNING IT SOWN HIS THROAT. LAST YEAR WAS SAD.I AIN'T GONE EVEN GET ON THE SECONDARY.OTHER TEAMS ARE WORSE ON DEFENSE BUT MY MONY DOES NOT ONLY SUPPORT THEM.I HOPE CARR IS READY AFTER ADDING 30 POUNDS OF MUSCLE TO HIS FRAME.WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF GRAM WOULD NOT BLITZ SO MUCH AND LET LB MAKE PLAYS AND ALLOW CORNERS TO COVER ON AN ISLAND?I DON'T EVEN WANNA THINK ABOUT IT .IT WOULD BE UGLY. WHAT DOYOU HAPPEN AGAINST JSU. PRESSURE BUST PIPES.WHAT ARE YOU GOIN TO DO AGAINST A WELL COACHED TEAM WITH MORE THAN ONE STAR?I PRAY SOEMBODY WATCHES FILM BEFORE AUG 23 GETS HERE.

POOR COACHING BREEDS POOR PLAYERS REGARDLESS OF TALENT
TECHNIQUE WILL CARRY YOU FARTHER THAN RAW TALENT EVER WILL!!!!!!!

Thank you STC! I knew I could count on you.

Our linebackers looked good in the B&G game...the younger lb's who were red-shirted last year (MLB Dimitri Carr going against the first team offense) and WLB David Hicks who started with the Black (first team) defense. In fact the entire linebacker corp looked better...but that comes with more experience and the infusion of new talent like Carr and Hicks. Veteran linebacker Antoine Smith is solid and proven. He was the team's leading tackler prior to missing late season games. Marcus Yanez, John Petty, Fred Wicker are veterans fighting to nail down a starting spot and fend off the young turks. The wildcard among the linebackers is backup strong safety, outside linebacker, pass rush specialist Terry Cooper( 6'2"- 215lbs) who had double digit sacks last season and lead the team in CBL's.

I think Grambling has the talent up front to bring pressure with the down four with ocassional pressure (See Terry Cooper). Our projected starters at end Pettway and Hughes are quick off the edges...like wise the middle rush from speed tackles, Duncan and Arnold. Leonard Patten moves up and down the line...all four positions. Started last year after coming off a prop season. Started from day one of Fall Practice...future NFLer!

I didn't want to tell yall all this...don't want yall cancelling the season.

MB, wasn't your projected starter at LB, Marcus Yanez, also your PUNTER last year? (Eggs .... basket .... cracked?)

For SU, remember these names:
Perry Davis, DL - run stopper right up the gut
Jabari Greene, LB - came into his own last year and probably will run the show this year

Other LB's to watch - Trey Calhoun, Kendrick Paul, and Eddie Green (It's a young group, but they have been behind some great classes.)

Other DL's to watch - Andre Payton and Johnathan St. Cyr

(And I haven't even gotten into the new Jags or the ones who are now eligible after a year.)

Yeah, Yanez is our punter...I don't see the smack in that. If anything, it shows the talent we have at GSU. A kid transfers from LSU where he was on the two-deep deep chart as a redshirt freshman and all he can do is punt for Grambling (until a spot becomes open).

mb areyou talkng last year b/g game.did you SEE the future starter on teh gold team run down they throat.People in the stands was saying the same thing .I s that the strting defense.Lb was gettign worked by Michael o'ree. Please that boy killing them lb. Idon't expect d- linemen too make alot of tackles cause soemone is blockng them as soon as teh ball is snapped .Nobody is blacking the lb as soon as teh ball is snappped .All they have to is fill teh hole and wrap up or let the MAN run over them to stop progreSS. They did not even do that last year.I bring up mcneese cause that's my hometown. it was noT the pass it was teh run all night long.On the radio they dogged my school saying msu handled them easily. All im saying you have to teach technique and fundamnetals and stop relying on talent.Terry cooper was teh best lb playing and he was the end for blitaz packages. They need to make hime full time outside linebacker. Move #8 to Strong safety and put a shutdown on the other side to go with Lee he can cover .I saw that in the b/g game.SWAC COACHING IS JUST SAD!!!!YOU CANNOT THROW A FADE EVERY DOWN ON A GOOD TEAM UNLESS THAT TEAM IS STUPIDLY COACHED !!!!!!!!!!!!

MVSU we have former defensive player of the year Cedric Mcdonald at Lb , and Rising LB DAmeon Collins

Actually, the linebacking corp didn't look bad in the B&G game. Granted, Michael Oree looked really impressive running the ball. Plus his lead blocker at fullback was 6'2" 250 lb Gideon who transferred from a Juco last season but was redshirted. He is a load. Comparing Yanez (Black team) and Carr (Gold team) at Middle Linebacker, I would give the edge to Carr. But one game does not dictate the starter. Either way, we have tremendous depth at linebacker. Terry Cooper is still a bit undersized to be an everydown linebacker. Dude only weighs about 210-215...his role (as a redshirt sophomore) will be to be a situational player.
I think that Terry will eventually grow to being a linebacker or rush end in the next two years. Definitely a playmaker.

The linebackers also missed the presence of Leonard Patten at defensive tackle in the B&G game. His bulk in the middle will help...also Hosea Atkinson (2003 recruit) and Taveres Comegy's will be our run stuffing tackles. Our lb corp will be speed oriented...but it is important that theyget better on shedding blockers and making plays. So far Carr looks the best at that!

I KNOW ONE GAME DOES NOT DICTATE ANYTHING BUT THEY PLAYED LAST YEAR RIGHT.IM JUST REPORTIENG WHAT FOLKS WAS SAYING AT THE GAME. IM LOOKINGN FOR ATKINSON TO WRECK SHOP.TEH LINE WILL BE SOLID AS USUAL BUT THE LB WILL MAKE OR BREAK THE DEFENSE.THAT'S WHY THE HAD TO BLITZ SO MUCH TO RPOTECT THE LB AND SECONDARY. LEE WILL BE 1ST TEAM ALL SWAC AND BOND WILL DO GOOD AT CORNER BUT HE WOULD DO BETTER AT HIS NATURAL POSTITION SAFETY.IM NOT THE COACH SO I HOPE THEY DO EM RIGHT.TEH SCHEDULE IS NOT ONE FOR ;MISTAKES OR BAD TASCKLING.ALL I CANSAY IS JUST WRAP UP AND GANG TACKLE !!!!!!1

Yeah, our blitz was too frequent last year. I don't like a defensive scheme that blitz all the time...it exposes you in coverage too much. An occassional blitz is good and should be dictated by down and distance, time of game, and at opportune times.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bond isn't move to safety...especially if Grambling goes to a two linebacker - 5 defensive back scheme. But I like the having him as a physical corner who is vicious in run support and coming off the corner on a well-timed corner blitz.

I HEARD THRU THE GRAPEVINE THEY HAVE SOME SHUTDOWN CORNERS COMIN IN THE FALL.TEHY MIGHT GIVE AID .THAT WAS TOO MUCH BLITZING .A TEAM CAN BLITZ LIKE THAT BUT THEY NEED COVER CORNERS AND THEY ONLY HAD ONE BROWN. THIS YEAR THAY HAVE LEE AND OTHERS . THEY GOT THE WHOLE SEONDARY FROM KENNEDY HS 32 PTS ALL SEASON.THE SAFETY FORM CARVER WHO HAD 28 TACKLES AGAINST WEST MONROE AND BEAT WM AT WM.THEY HAVE SOEM GOOD TALENT COMING IN.I WAS JUST GLAD TO SEE THEM AT GRM BESIDE LSU. I RATHER SEE THEM GO SU BEFORE LSU.LSU IS TOO FAKE FOR ME . THEYLIE TO KIDS EVERY SPRING AND FALL.PROMISING THEM SPOTS AND MAKING GO JUCO.THAT'S HOW DOUG GOT ALOT OF KIDS. THEYKNOW THEY GONE PLAY AND WIN. HAS ANYONE SEEN THOSE BRICKS ON TEHY FIGURES.WINNING CURES ALL ILLS.

We have lots of talent and lots of depth. It's gonna be important to see if this talent translate into success on the field. With our db's we have (returning starters Daigre and Bonds plus pencilled in starter Seneca Lee and part-time starter Erin Bridges) things should go well. We have some talented youngsters at corner who will push for playing time...especially Chris Williams from White Castle High. Dude was an SEC recruit who tore his ACL last season prior to reporting. Antwan Barnes from Winnfield so playing time last year as a true freshman...they will make things tight at the corner. Also remember George Piggott who was our top punt returner last season while serving as a backup corner.

We got so much talent, we might average 1 defensive touchdown per game. I guess Kent will have to find someone new to throw to now that Denmark Reed is gone.

Where are you hiding all of this defensive talent?

Bruh come on...stop being a homer

You have nothing on defense....especially since #74 and #19 are gone. I think you lost a DE too.

And please quit mentioning Bond. That dude was so sorry. In constant chase mode. That dude is one of the worst DBs in the SWAC. Sometimes you have to wonder why some kids tranfer. I know why he transferred.

We lost #74 (Willie Gray),#19 (Chris Brown), #94 (Antwan Lawrence), #55 (Ron Johnson), #38 (Denmark "Defensive Receiver" Reed). All were good players and leaders for us defensively. Gray and Lawrence will be replaced by Leonard Patten (started at defensive end last season), Tavares Comegys, Calvin Arnold, Charles Duncan, Jimmy Zachary who will rotate at the defensive tackle positions. Chris Brown will be replaced by
Seneca Lee at corner...he transferred from ULM where he was the leading tackler and 3 yr starter, Ron Johnson's spot is being competed for by Marcus Yanez, John Petty (started at tight end in
2001 as a true freshman), and Dimitri Carr. Denmark Reed is currently being replaced by Erin Bridges but competition is there from Octavious Bond, Chris Williams, Michael Gilbert and others. There's a lot of guys wanting to play this "receiver" position when we go to Jackson.
