HBCUs need to come together


We let in the highest number of kids not ready to do college work of any of the 4 year schools in our state and have plenty of developmental programs, tutoring and seminar courses. Getting students not ready up to par and securing funding should be an area of expertise for our schools. We have too many excuses and not enough production.

But some folks want us to only select the best of the best so that we can be ranked in U.S. News, regardless of the fact of our traditional missions.

Let's just remember the starter of this thread is the grand puba of JSU posters on here who came out the gate as usual with the crabs in the bucket mentality and of course the rest of yall fell in line.

No one has to tell us about what's going on at Valley. Posters like TP, GR and Levi18 are gonna make sure to post anything negative going on at MVSU the first chance they can. But JSU is in no better spot than any other school in the SWAC. Yet only JSU seems to think otherwise.

I think there are quiet a few schools failing academically, athletically, and financially. I Pray, hope, want, beg, and plead for Valley to stay open. Do you know how big of a deal that college is to the older generation in the Miss Delta? Do you know how big of a deal it is to the younger generation in the Miss Delta? Do you know kids with good grades do NOT even consider going there. They are getting 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th rate students for the most part. But the reason for that is they allow dumb ass people in there developmental programs and they do not pan out. They do NOTpan out because they don't give a damn about academics, but only care about a check. Until this mindset is changed at all HBC's academically and athletically then we will continue to be the 1st choice of dumb asses with there hands out and the 2nd or 3rd choice for the ones that actually wanna get a degree and make a better life. And this is not the case for all HBC's but i bet it is the case for most. The cycle has got to be broken or history will repeat itself

Are you a Valley alum? Do you live in the Miss Delta? If so I would love to chat with you in person and see if we can find a group of people that wanna attempt to make Valley different

The question is, aside from maybe the MEAC who do you think would want you? Going to a PWC conference isn't going to make you competitive. If you want to improve your program then its up to your PROGRAM to lure those athletes that you aren't getting, not the conference. If you do leave, you'll end up being just like Tenn St, a general middle to bottom of the pack team in a PWC conference that has to use all of their OOC games for classics to keep the fans interested.

What some don't seem to realize is that after desegregation, HBCU football became a niche sport. And when I say that I mean there's really no interest by anyone other than black folk.. and probably only about 10-15% of even black folk. So at the end of the day the reality of the matter is 1) No, you're most likely never going to get the top athletes again. 2) HBCU football is your draw and what brings fans to your stadium. Change that formula and you will without a doubt lose your attendance numbers unless you go the Tenn St method. But aside from an occasional win you see how that move turned out for them. And they aren't even in a tough FCS conference. 3) Likely, 95% of them aren't going to want you in their conference unless it's a desperate situation. Look at Hampton and Norfolk with the CAA, would be perfect fits location wise but the CAA would rather go all the way to NY and grab Stony Brook just to keep from getting them. 4) Most likely, the only folks that complain about this are folks on this board and the casual fan probably couldn't care less.

Yea, people kill me when they use historical mission to justify open near open enrollment. We were founded to actually go after the brightest kids not johnny with a 2.0 gpa and 14 act score. If Johnny can't muster a 2.5 gpa and a 16 ACT at a minimum, his arse needs to go to community college.

Who would want you or anything to do with this conference.

Everytime someone expresses an opinion about one day leaving, the crabs come in with that "who would wnat you crap" simply because you are too scared to try anything new or out the HBCU box. You act like you know everybody that complain and everybody that don't. The biggest lie ever told here on a regular basis is the lie about the only people that complain are the people on the board.

People complain but what stuck in the past posters on this board don't understand is that OUR LEADERS are just like the leaders in the black community. They talk a damm good game about listening but the only people they will listen or cater too are the same OLD tired rejects that have been strangling the life out of our schools and conference the last 3 decades.

Blacks with no vision always want to say "You ain't gonna be shat" if you leave. Well NEWSFLASH.............This conference damm sure not gonna make anybody better at nothing except excuse making as to why we should hang onto this declining bullshat, dragging dead weight along like a freaking anchor.

We leave one day, why should it be any of YOUR concern where we end up? You didn't graduate from JSU so what we do should not concern you. One would think, the way you post, you would be happy as he!! to see JSU leave. :tup:

Man, I am not delusional when it comes to JSU's problems or HBCU problems in the state in general but lets be honest here. Valley's predicament is worse than JSU's or Alcorn's. Something will have to give down there in the delta in these next 10 years or I don't see how the school survives. I once asked why the school was fighting Oliver so much and people couldn't explain. Oliver won't be there much longer though.

The root of a LOT of hbcu issues lie in those statements. Integration-assimilation opened newer doors to the former talented 10th. Seems like hbcus started to redefine their missions as "special purpose" instead of attempting to lure the former intell & athletic talent. Cannot type too much as I'm on iph.
