Dr. H You miss understood what I was saying. God doesn't force anything on anyone. You are right on that point. But if someone is trying and seeking the truth with deligence, then God will not leave him blind, as long as he is a teachable person.

If you can read and understand what you read, then this verse is plain as day to ANYONE who isn't deaf and or dumb.....God will not leave a man blind forever if he seeks after the truth. He will leave you blind if you don't know and not trying to find out. He will also leave you blind if you refuse to accept the truth. If you keep seeking then you will find. Jesus said it..I believe it. Have a nice day. Once again, this is bible, not DWAYNE.

No, I am not saying that Deacons has to be married, however God set the standards and tells us why. The entire Church has a say so, on who become Elders and Deacons in the Church.
Ask your pastor about the qualifications of a deacon and compare his answer to that of God’s.

Now lets work on Docmumph. Actually, my pastor came to me about becoming a deacon because I had no inclination/thought of becoming one at the time. He said that God was showing him that I'd make a good one...who am I to question God? I just asked him (my pastor) to give me some time to think about it, pray about it. We went over the qualifications(being saved, good moral standing, receive the baptism of the holy spirit, etc.) and the congregation was given an opportunity to oppose if they knew of any reason.

He said that God was showing him that I'd make a good one

I pray that he is using God's standards and not his own.

If you meet the qualifications according to the bible, why not become a deacon?

Great, but make sure that this is something that you desire and not because the preacher asked you. Why? God will and shall hold you accountable.

Make sure you read verse 8 [1 Timothy 3] there is a little small word "Likewise" = in a similiar manner. So all the that is listed in 1-7 you have to meet in addition to the qualifications in 8-13.

If you accept the position take it serious.

A dacon is a servant to the God first, The people second and to himself last.

Thanks Dr. H and I'll re-read 1 TIM. 3

I must've not been clear in the other posts though. I 've accepted the positon, it'll be a year on May 5. I do and always will take it serious. :nod2:

Yes, The same happened to me. I asked him to let me think about it. I then turned to the word of God to see what God said about a deacon.
1Ti 3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
1Ti 3:9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
1Ti 3:10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
1Ti 3:11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
1Ti 3:12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
1Ti 3:13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Well, If we are going to agree that these are the qualifications of a Deacon, then we must agree that all are the qualifications of a Deacon.

That's enough for now. Lets see where this takes us.
