Have Your Church Become a Spiritual "Night Club"

We have a band, choir, jokes, women teaching, good time, good teaching, etc at my church.

I look at it like Gamaliel looks at it in Acts 5:33 when people wanted to condemn the apostles for what was going on in the church.

Gamaliel said, "If what they're doing is not from God, don't worry about hating them because what they're doing will come to ruin anyway. (the bad tree won't produce good fruit)."

He went on to say, "IF what these guys are doing IS from God, than you're stones, discouraging words, judging, hating, etc CAN'T stop them anyway!" (the good tree will always produce good fruit).

My question is not, "Does your church tell jokes, does your church have instruments, does your church have women wearing pants, do all the men wear suits, etc." I think those are silly questions sometimes.

Better questions are,
1) "Even though your church has a band, does the music help to give some hope?"
2) "Even though your church seems to laugh a lot, is someone getting closer to Jesus?"
3) "Even though a woman got there and explained salvation instead of a man, did you get the message of Jesus' Love for you? (though some don't like the messenger).
4) What is your church doing for the members, city, state, nation, world, or you?

If a women explain the gospel, and 250 people get saved, do we say Praise Jesus, or what the 'L' was she doing up there? I know what I say, and sadly, I think I know what some of the posters here would say.

As I said, my church does a lot of things that some saints may have a problem with. Some of the things go against others traditions, religions, and bible understanding, BUT the reason we never lose steam, we never slow down, we never worry about what people say is because GOD has His hand on it and it shows by the fruit we produce.

Simply put,
People don't want other people to get saved. People only want other people to get saved according to their own limited understanding of God. We only want to see someone get saved IF it's done without women involved, without instruments involved, without etc...That's Sad! People don't think that God will save, can save, wants to save, a man or women in any way different than how they think it should be done. Even if you know the bible back and forth, you still don't know all that God can do and the various ways He can do it, especially regarding church services. No one has God "down pact" or "figured out".

God's principles don't change, but the applications of His principles change everyday! (more on this later)

That's why some un-conventional things are going in church services today that are working the nevrves of some convetnional saints, espceailly since God is using those same un-conventional things to save people daily. (more on this later)

So, quote all of the scripture you want for, or against something, but if GOD is using it to help folks, "it won't stop, it can't stop, it don't stop." -Diddy You can only watch & hate/wonder...

gota go to work...

I don't see the problem with jokes in the church if it was use for a reason. People are different today. You have to take a different approach to grab their attention.

On the issue on female preachers etc, I have to agree with Dr. H. It is right there in the Bible. Nough said. You can't get no clearer than that.

I think we do need clarity...

Preacher = someone who proclaims the gospel = telling someone about Jesus = man, woman, child, trained monkey, etc.

1 Timothy ch 3: is specifically talking about Bishops and deacons, etc.

Can a woman evangelize in a women's study group, or at work during a lunch bible study, or in a stadium? Is evangelizing to a group (small or large) okay as long as she isn't the Pastor, Deacon, or Bishop of the church.

My mom would tell my friends about Jesus. Can she do that in front of 50K people in a stadium without God getting mad at her?

Yes, I am an instigator

First of all, thanks nevaehinvesting. I will co-sign that.

Now for some instigating...

Where in the scripture is there a Black or White or Jewish or Gentile or any other racial distinction for a church?

Just wondering. ;)

I think some lines are being blurred here on the subject of the women preachers.

Dr. H nor the bible is talking about women leading a Suday school class or a woman's bible study group or going door to door telling people about Jesus or speaking in public on Jesus. What is in question is a woman being a bishop, minitser/preacher(in the sense of leading a congregation rather than the act of teaching), or Deacon. The guidelines for that have been stated and I am interested to hear another interpretation of those guidelines to refute the point that has been made.

I don't believe anyone is saying that is wrong for a woman to spread the word but there are certain positions in the church that appear from scripture to be reserved for men.

I hope that the push for equality between men and women in society does not continue to blur the fact that there are some things that God appointed to women specificaly and to men specificaly. God does have roles for both sexes and that does not make one inferior to the other in the sense that society has tried to paint over the years.

Thanks Nevah!

Women, teach, preach and lead in my world, and I wouldn't have it any oother way .

For those who are against itm, I guess you don't like Juanita Bynum, huh?

**thinking to myself** Men have been pastors for years, in all this time, I wonder why there aren't more men in the church? That's not saying that women could draw more men...just a fleeting thought.

Yea I got some passing thoughts too about why there are more women in the church run by male pastors.... :smh:

What - we ain't there for the WORD? We're only Satan's pawns to tempt the Holy Reverend Joe Blow from his wife? Back to my original though - What could be done to lure more men to church?

While my passing thought was off topic and slightly sarcastic....I would like to know....

Are the two of you suggesting that men have not been effective in this role based on the number of men in church or the current state of a lot of black males? And are you implying that women may do a better job at this task. I'm not trying to put words in anyones mouth....just making sure I understand what is being implied.

*remembering there is a specific way in which the bible gives woman the opportunity to do just this and wondering who else remembers it*

BP: Not referrong to all,,,sorry for making a generalizations....

I think having women who do good jobs can HELP.

I knew that this would get good. Now, you all keep it in "Love" and this will be one of the best discussions I read on this board in months. :D

Don't act as if I said all women aren't there for the word and don't act as if all women are there for the word.....and that can go for men too.

I don't descriminate between who should be led to church by gender cuz a soul is a soul, but I will say this. For one men CAN be led to church by having the right MATE and two by having a father figure in the house more often. Not taking anything away from women raising a child on their own because I HAVE seen it done and WELL. But the idea of FAMILY was created for a reason.

I visit a lot of churches and [God Forbid] the way preachers have allowed the world to ?take over? the purity of the Church. I attended a gospel meeting a few years ago and this young man was leading songs, [excellent voice] but he had I think they are called ?finger waves? and an earring in each ear and wearing Clogs. The sad part is his father was the preacher.

J4J

The part about the joke is that a lot of preachers a ?joking? instead or preaching. Let me put it this way, a vast number of ?modern day preachers? are preaching everything except the gospel, better yet they are ?sugar coating? the gospel. If the gospel is preached the bible says it is like a ?two edge sword? in other words it is designed to cut down to your heart.

I know people attend Church / Worship Service for various reasons. But, in the eyes of God, you are only there for only one reason ?that is to worship him? I guess that is why the Bible talks about the various types of worship and not church service.

I believe you can have fun at church. Not too many jokes but you should at least have fun.

I agree..

Isa 43:19

I believe He [God] is talking about the restoration of Israel.

There is nothing wrong with a woman teaching, witnessing and doing a number of things in the church. However, when it comes to being in ?the pulpit? yes I have a problem. [I know some women that can speak better than men]. In fact there are some men that need to step down out of the pulpit. Everyone that stands in the pulpit on Sunday morning is not called by God to preach. Now a days ?mankind? preach for various reasons and it?s not all about saving souls for God.

Dr. H, you have said a mouthful there my good fellow. I have this book that someone let me read. "Satan in the pulpit" by Staunton E. Smith Perkins. I'm in the early stages of the book, so I havent concluded a reasonable decision on it yet. If any of you all have it, pls feel free to discuss it and your beliefs on it.

:lmao: Now I know this is waaaaaaaaaay off topic...but you stepped on my toe. Now if the cat wearin clogs if I'm imagining the right shoe I can see what you are saying. But now what exactly is wrong with wearing earings. I wear earings in both ears and am far from being confused about my masculinity. :nod2: Now if you are talking about the combination of stuff then I can see where you are coming from....some dudes have a different idea about earrings :lmao:

Off topic: (again)

Deut. explains the meaning behind the earring in a man's ear.

Dr. H & Docmump,

Are ya'll saying a Deacon has to be married? Apparently, my pastor, elders and the other deacons think not. There's two of us patiently waiting on our board. Reveal her soon Lord! :D

As for the musicians/choir....I totally agree w/J4J. You may hear some secular riffs in some of the upbeat songs but it only adds to the worship and praise experience for me. They never cross the line, there's a very nice mix of the traditional and contemporary.
Yes, A Deacon must be married. Now if his wife dies, he can still be a deacon but a deacon must be married in order to be installed as such.

I agree w/most of what you said the exception being - I don't have problems with a woman in the pulpit.

All I'm saying is there are a lot of brotha's at home washing their '62 Impala & getting ready for the game on Sunday morning. Men have been in the pulpit for years. Why haven't more men embraced church?

Just wanted to make sure thats what was being said. I don't see the direct link between men in the pulpit and men not in church. On this topic are we really thinking about black men...or are we thinking about men of all races. Its my belief that the problem with the black man is deeper than what gender is in the pulpit. Women have MUCH power and don't even have to be in the pulpit to use it. So now why can't this male church member deficieny be put on women out of the pulpit just as much as men in the pulpit?

Cause the man is the pastor of the church - it's his job to win souls/members to the church - based on what I've read. Women are supposed to clap & smile after he joins & say, "We're glad you've joined us Brotha John, Pastor Joe got work for you to do. By the way, you married?"
