Harry Belafonte lashes out at Colin Powell/Bush Adm.

Colin Powell of all people did not deserve the verbal attack. Of course he's not going to publicly disagree with his boss. Who in his/her right mind, would stand before the media and announce he/she disagrees with action of the boss? Sec. of State Powell has fought numerous battles behind closed doors to try to get this administration to do the right thing. And many times, he has considered resigning.

Anybody that has worked in corporate America, knows that though you may bicker privately, unfortunately you must either publicly support or silently disagree the actions of the CEO, Commander in Chief, etc. This action does not mean one has a slave mentality, It simply means one is politically astute.

Belafonte's words show little political insight.

Man do I agree..."L" is Bush offered me a White House Internship I would jump at the offer. This is wild that an ACTOR who has had no political ties can bash:

The First African American to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

The First African American to be Secretary of State

I'm glad you posted this. I caught the end of Larry King last night and was planning to get on the net to see what the heck they were talking bout. I kinda figured it be something of this nature.

What he said was partially true. Powell and Rice got the jobs, so Bush could appear to be a man of the people. He wants his cabinet to appear diverse. It helps him spout that compassionate conversatism crap. They both might be the best people for the jobs they have, but I don't think the reason they got the job.

Bush's cronies wanted Powell to be seen and not heard. But he's been causing such a ruckus on the hill, until they would rather him not around at all. However, they can't afford to have Powell leave because of the respect that he commands from the international community and moderate republicans.

I think Powell is like any other popular black person. White people accept him as long as he stays in his place.

While I may not agree with Mr. Belafonte using the forum that he did to criticize Sec. Powell, I must respect the opinion of someone who has been at the forefront of the civil rights struggles, and for years has provided action and monetary support to those efforts. Harry Belafonte is an "old soldier" as they say, who sacrificed criticism by Hollywood for his stand during the most heated years of the movement. I'm not enamored with with use of the "slave" terminology that he used to refer to Powell, but I do respect his right to make his remarks.

Now you ask if I agree with his remarks about the Sec. of State....no I do not!

While I feel as though Belafonte's choice of words were not in good taste, I respect (and to a point) agree with what he is saying. I bet if he had another one of those white men in Sec of St. Powell place, they would speak their mind and he would listen. On the flip side, Powell might agree in his heart with Bush( which I seriously doubt). So you really can't say until you hear it from the horse's mouth
