Harbaugh Leaving Stanford for SF 49ers...

Nonchalant

Hail, Hail To Thee...
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...et-their-man-hire-harbaugh-away-from-stanford

The San Francisco 49ers -- following a week of speculation -- have landed Jim Harbaugh, according to a source close to the coach

Harbaugh, at Stanford since 2007, is set to lead a 49ers team that tumbled to a 6-10 record in 2010.

This season, Harbaugh, 47, led the Cardinal to a program-best 12-1 record and an Orange Bowl victory over Virginia Tech.

Harbaugh is 58-27 overall as a college coach and 29-21 in four seasons at Stanford.

He took over a 1-11 Cardinal team when he was hired in December 2006 and quickly turned the program into a winner and bowl contender.

That offer was too pretty to turn down. He can always come back to the college ranks if it doesn't work out.

Finally, the 49ers get their man. This is a good day for all 49ers fan. I think Harbaugh is a good coach because he does more with less talent. The next thing we need to solve is who Harbaugh will get to be our QB. I would like to trade for Kevin Kolb, but I think we would have to give up to much to trade for him. If the 49ers could swap 2nd round draft pick in 2011 draft and 3rd round draft pick in 2012 then I would do it. If they decide to draft a QB I would draft Andy Dalton (TCU), Chris Ponders (Florida St.), Scott Tolzien (Wisconsin), or Greg McElroy (Alabama).

I'm not sold on McElroy. I'll take Locker over that guy...

Locker is way over rated. I expect his stock to drop like a rock. Locker is a running 1st QB and pass 2nd. If we want a running QB why not draft Cam Newton or sign Vince Young? Harbaugh has a history of doing more with less. I expect him to find a smart, tough, & accurate passer in the 2nd or later rounds. That's why I think they will trade for Kevin Kolb or daft Dalton, Ponders, Tolzien, or McElroy.

Please don't mention Vince Young. That would be a bad move. I think we should bring Troy Smith back and acquire another QB via trade or draft.

pop: VY has definitely improve as passer, two-pro bowler and has 30-17 record as starter... You can't always believe bias bs from yentas in the media like Peter King, Jim Wyatt and others... Heck, even coaches and sportswriters said Young has made great strides as passer and reading defenses.. Remember, your niners took risk on another qb from losing Bucs back in the day... If I recalled, coaches in Tampa Bay once called himself whinner... But that whiner would eventually win superbowl for niners back in 94...

I would take Locker before taking any of the quarterbacks you have listed. Cam Newton, although a great college player, has only played one real season of big boy football.

He was a backup at Florida then spent a year in junior college before heading to Auburn. That's not a lot of pedigree for a potential franchise quarterback.

Ponder has been inconsistent at Florida State much in the mold of Stephen Garcia at South Carolina. Tolzien has experience in a pro style offense, but was never asked to win games at Wisconsin.

McElroy was OK in college, but not many scouts consider him anything higher than maybe a late round pick.

From the little I've seen of Daulton I like him. I don't know where he would fall in the draft, though.

The jury is still out on Kolb. I wouldn't give up more than a fourth round pick for him.

I seriously would look at Kyle Orton. He had two pretty good years in Denver throwing for a ton of yards with a high completion percentage. He was decent in Chicago before being traded for Jay Cutler.

Yeah, but a lot of teams might question Young's attitude, though. He seems like he doesn't handle adversity well at all.

I was a Troy Smith supporter until I saw how he interacted with Mike Singletary....I wouldn't let him carry the water. I always wondered why he wasn't "getting a shot" to play. Now I understand.

AXEL: My cousin played with Green Bay Packers during the ninties with young quarterback had silimar issuses like VY.. If I recalled, that fella had great career in national football league and would win superbowl with the Packers...

That wasn't the case. He was getting his chance when the Ravens got rid of Boller. The Ravens players and coaches had no trouble with Troy. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed wanted him to be the starter the year they drafted Flacco. But Troy got sick and missed time and Flacco held his ground and took them to the playoffs and of course being a 1st round pick he had the job secured. The Ravens let Troy go to give him a chance to get playing time or compete for a job somewhere after Flacco was good for his first 2-3 years. All they needed was an older veteran Qb to back him up in case of injury instead of keeping two young ones. So they brought in Bulger because with the Ravens being older on defense knew their window of opportunity is slipping so if Flacco got hurt, Bulger could take them probably further than a young and inexperienced Troy Smith. Everybody is letting one incident on the sideline taint their view on Troy when even the 49ers ownership sided with the players saying Singletary had to go. Now even Vernon Davis is saying players were scared of Mike and his tantrums and grew tired of it. New school.

Don't be shocked if the 49ers bring back Troy now that Harbaugh got the job......remember his brother John was Troy's coach in B-more. I do expect them to bring in or draft a QB. I think Troy in the right system can be okay. But I don't think he is a franchise Qb.

Mike Singletary just pushed them cats too far with his old school ways. John Harbaugh didn't get in players grill like that in Baltimore and you know damn well Ray Lewis wouldn't have tolerated no isht from Mike or any coach that is that way publically. Mike S tried to be like Ditka too much and that style don't work. Remember how McMahon used to blow Ditka off because of his antics on the sidelines. LOL. Troy and Mike were both wrong for the exchange we saw. You deal with the player after the game or halftime. Wasn't like Troy rolled of to the sideline and went to Singletary and got in his face. His coach went to him on the bench and did that. But since Troy is a nobody he should have just taken the verbal assault and sucked it up publically. Then let Mike have it after the game privately.

Don't be surpise if Harbaugh and Niners trade pick for Tampa Bay Bucs back-up Johnson.. Johnson played for Harbaugh at University of San Diego...

That Qb had a hard core coach who didn't take no isht in Mike Holmgren. Mike kept Brett in check in that locker room. Did you see the NFL network special with Holmgren wired up when he was coaching. Man he was always on Brett. Brett didn't get away with isht until Mike Sherman took over and let Brett do what he wanted. That's when Brett got out of control and the reason they never got back to the Super Bowl. Mike McCarthy is similar to Holmgren and he and Brett bumped heads immediately and we all know the rest. LOL. VY ain't the talent of Favre and is coming in during a different era where there are more diva like players than ever which means you have more emotional issues to deal with. Takes a special coach to balance these personalities out. In the old days the coaches just ruled with an iron fist and it worked. These days, the players make too much money and since the teams invest so much in Qbs now it gives them more leverage than the past. VY has to grow up and not think everything will come easy to him like it did at Texas. Dude even said he would take the Heisman if Reggie Bush had to give it back when that issue first broke in the news. I was like VY, you don't say isht like that. Somebody got to him and he retracted those comments and said he wouldn't want it. LOL. Like Pop33 said. Dude is soft emotionally. He can't handle adversity well. He will need to go to a team that don't receive alot of media attention. Could you imagine him having to play in Philly or New York where he would be eaten alive by the hacks.

He had 5 million reasons to pick them.
Singletary only got 2.5 million

It was reported that Miami owner Stephen Ross was going to pay him more (over $7.5 million-Bill Belichick's salary).
