Hampton looking to leave the MEAC for the CAA

A move like this is ok, but I really think Hampton needs to hold on in the MEAC untill they choose to move to a FBS conferance. The MEAC is growing and is becoming a respected FCS conferance in all sports. I can see a smaller non=HBCU joining the MEAC in the next 4 years. Just like Chowan moved to the CIAA. The SWAC really needs to wake up. The SWAC really should have been the first HBCU conferance to have a member move to an FBS conferance or a non-HBCU school to move to the SWAC. We just continue to do the wrong things and make the wrong calls.

When AAMU joined the SWAC it was a great experience, however, when I read comments about what the SWAC should do and did not do, I am amazed of the little knowledge many fans and alums who know the true facts about the SWAC (which consist of 10 schools). There is a rich history of the SWAC, but the SWAC is not the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and etc. When our alums and fans discuss what the SWAC need to do, it is not the SWAC Office who will make the final decision on recommendations, but a collective efforts by our Presidents. Many schools other than SWAC schools are struggling just to keep an athletic department in the black and HBCUS are faced with the same issues. However, we have done more with less than many of the small PWCs and if we continue with our support we can do even better.

The SWAC history is just as rich, if not richer.

The CAA did not want Hampton in 1995 when Hampton moved up to Division I. Would the CAA want Hampton now?

Easy you get a school that has had a record of beating up on your schools. You rather have them in conference and getting wins from other conferences. Hampton would be in a conference that could at least get more than 1 NCAA bid or at least some teams in the NIT. And the CAA still gets to keep at least 3 teams in Virginia.

We're better off than alot of small to mid-PWC schools on our level but our negative business gets out more to the media which creates a bad perception

I've talked to SWAC coaches who've worked at some small d-1 schools and those schools are in worse shape than alot of ours but you never hear....we have yet to drop to D3 but 2 in Louisiana has...

the bottom line is we need to evaluate our current infrastructure before moving to create positive perceptions

No disrespect but I have heard some people in the government say that the SU Board is ran by thugs, some of who take marching orders from people who care nothing about Southern.

Come on Pop. How would they know anyway. Just because folks work for the Federal Government, don't mean they are in the know about any of our schools. I know how that DC game is played. Done been around and affiliated with the Government for too long man. Some folks in the Feds are some of the most inept and gossip laden folks I have ever met. LOL. Most just talk to be talking. The real power brokers and ones in the know don't say isht to anybody that aint on their level or above. Just the way it goes. What you heard is probably some ole hateful arse comments because somebody stepped on someone toes once upon a time. There is no reason for any government official to have to deal with any SU Board member outside of maybe the President of the System unless it was dealing with them in some other political capacity which is more likely the case. Sounds like someone got their feelings hurt by someone on our board on a non SU related issue. LOL.

The SU board might not always have the right folks selected to serve. But they are not thugs. LOL. The problem normally is that they are too politically tied to someone and not necessarily have SU's best interest at heart. I may call them a lot of things. But thugs aint one of them.

 Thugs??? I don't agree. Nor do I agree with the folks don't care about SU. Recently, since making a couple of changes, the board has been about it's buisness and has stayed out of the media, while letting folks do their job. Thats all alums and supporters can ask for.

This is true. I think Pop is referring to our previous boards. No way anybody can be talking about this board. It hasn't been together that long with the new folks who just got on there. Plus them folks in DC that are talking to Pop are just full of themselves.
