with that schedule... I agree... The first 4 games are easy games that JSU SHOULD easily win.. ASU lost EVERYTHING... so JSU may also get that one.. dont see them beating SU, GSU, UAPB,AAMU, Alcorn.... so I see 6-5
We could have started out 4-0 last year. We should have beat TNState and yes, Hampton was beatable. I don't expect a perfect year but any of the teams you listed are could go down to JSU. I just don't think with so many new players and a new system that everything will fall into place to beat all of those teams. However:
SU: was not great last year. Whichever team improves the most will win. By the time we play them, our team should be coming together. We will have a better QB this year.
GSU: We beat them before without Bruce....as did a lot of other teams. Also, to ME, they have questionable coaching. Comegy stands a chance of outcoaching Spears.
UAPB: They are UAPB. I won't take too much over how they beat us last year. We were depleted by then (depthwise) and all they had to do was run the ball. Remember Bell beat them in a better year (2004). Bell could have blown them out if he had simply moved the safety up earlier.
AAMU: AAMU can't beat us when we are decent. We will have some big recievers who may be on top of their game by the time we play AAMU. That is all you need to beat AAMU. Also, all indications are that we won't have a passive defense under Comegy so the AAMU offense is gonna have to come with it. If you turn the ball over like you did the last time you came to Jackson, you won't stop us from making 10 yard drives into the endzone.
Alcorn: We own them. I think they have a good OC and DC but their talent is still lacking. Even with a depleted team last year, we gave them a fight in the last game of the year. We might actually have the edge on them with overall talent. It just depends if that talent can come together. To be honest, of all the games, I think Alcorn is the one with the best chance of swinging in our favor.
I suspect that we are still going to have a few problems with depth (20 transfers won't totally fix that problem) but I don't see us laying down for anybody. Remember this will be a totally new team from the coaches, offensive scheme, & defensive scheme. We will have a new QB and possibly a new set of starting receivers (with the exception on Jamar Johnson). Our o-line and RB's from last year will be alright. Defensively, we are making an effort to improve the front seven and this will also be a more agressive defense. No more sitting back waiting on what the other team is going to do.
Remember, JSU can play C-ball with the best of 'em!! Nobody knows that better than AAMU.
