GRAMBLING -- Grambling State has lost another offensive starter off its
back-to-back championship football team.
The Tigers announced Wednesday that senior running back Brad Hill
failed to qualify and will be academically ineligible for the 2002 football
season. GSU will now be looking to replace nine offensive starters from a unit
that has won two straight Southwestern Athletic conference and national Black
College Championships.
"It's not a good deal," GSU coach Doug Williams said. "We feel bad for
Brad and we feel bad for the team. But now we just have to try and move on.
There's more to being a student athlete than just football, and if you don't
produce in the classroom, these kinds of things can happen."
Hill (5-10, 230) came to Grambling State out of Assumption High School
in Napolianville, La., and last season became Grambling's first 1000-yard
rusher since the 1993 season. Hill muscled his way for 1,023 yards and 12
touchdowns on 219 carries last season and was a second-team All-Southwestern
Athletic Conference selection.
