Grambling vs. Savannah State: Game Updates

GRAMBLING, La. - Ab Kauuan ran for two touchdowns as Grambling State held off a late rally by Savannah State to win 33-17 on Saturday afternoon.

Kauuan's second TD run with 11:07 left in the third quarter gave Grambling (9-2) a 33-3 lead. Kauuan had 24 yards on seven carries.

Savannah (0-11) scored its two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Mario Spencer rushed for a 1-yard score with 9:33 left in the quarter and five minutes later Khalil Hasan made it 33-17 off of a 29-yard catch. Hasan had nine catches for 146 yards.

Bruce Eugene threw two touchdowns for Grambling and was 21 of 39 for 248 yards. He also rushed for 24 yards as the Tigers had a total of 332 offensive yards.

Clyde Tullis threw for 156 yards completing 11 of 21 passes for Savannah. Mario Spencer was 7 of 21 for 81 yards.

Tramon Douglas had eight catches for 91 yards and Moses Harris caught five passes for 49 yards for Grambling. Harris also scored on a 4-yard pass in first quarter to give Grambling a 14-0 lead. C. Brownfield scored Grambling's other touchdown on a 14-yard pass from Eugene with 1:28 left before the break.

At halftime, Grambling led 26-3 after Savannah was only able to score on a 31-yard field goal by Kyle McCrery with 6:06 left before the break.

Dude don't try to spin that. He was switching the rotation the entire game. Seniors that didn't get much playing time during the year were allowed to play in their last game in Robinson stadium. 2nd and 3rd stringers were mixed in with the starters. About half the starters for the game on defense were 2nd stringers.

Some of the moves were also because of a flu bug that ran through the team. Several starters got sick in the past few days ...
