Jafus,

As a devout alum, what is the reason PV can not place a better product on the field? I have many podnuhs from PV, and I am fully aware of the solid academic standing, campus environment, etc., which the recruitment/retention of talent. Unlike TSU, which I perceive more of a commuter school, PV really has the ingredients to establish itself. Sure tradition is a powerful mechanism/facilitator to winning, but programs without any history - for example - Southeastern Louisiana passed PV in its first year after being dormant for 20+ years.

From what I saw yesterday, the disparity between Grambling and PV is growing further apart as opposed to closer. I do not see a commitment to winning from PV -- do you?

Seen it with my own eyes...that Gram team isn't 43 points better than us..Southern also....

pv isn't even close to the level at Grambling. Proof. pv has Grambling's play book. They basically knew what we were going to do and could not stop it. Northern was at Grambling last year pv used some of our offensive plays and defensive plays against us. You are right Grambling isn't 43 points better, more like 50. I told you guys last year was a fluke. If Frazier wants to teach D2 tactics cheap shots and hits after the whistle, then his teams will get beat accordingly. I am still pissed they scored. pv's performance last year was a fluke, it showed on Saturday.

the game wasn't marketed in Houston this year.....last year they gave away tickets on local radio stations and filled up a party bus with fans who stayed at PV's hotel...you could tell there was none this year because the lobby was dead Friday night.

They promoted the game in San Antonio more than they did in Houston...weird...

also...you should have some kind of analysis that compares pregame ticket sales....if it fell below the goal of last year steps should've been taken to at least make the stadium appear full

taking advantage of the New Orleans evacuees in Dallas would've helped also...

with Rita causing chaos in Houston last week, it was obvious they lost out on Houston fans.

as for the hour move.....I personally think it was a move spearheaded by the state fair folks to get fans to spend money once they leave the game. In years past, the fair was closed after the game so if a fan got to the game at kickoff, they won't spend a dime on food, games, rides, etc..

unfortunately, when you deal with black folks and big games...you cannot mess up several elements

Simply put. No there is not a commitment to winning in terms of athletics at Prairie View A & M University from the top down. Our past presidents did not financially support athletics, they did not fight with the State of Texas legislatures in terms of athletics (some will say they were fight on other issues regarding funding).

Our president, Dr Wright understands that athletics is the window into the university, but he will not release money (or at least none other than what it takes to balance the budget year end budget to reconcile) for athletics. While, this is really across the board for many of our HBCU programs, from my research it is even more evident, a deeper financial divide, and a deeper problem at Prairie View. There are various dynamics at play, but most of it is monetary.

I had an opportunity to sit down with him when he laid out his view of athletics. Again, he is just the standard university president, really sensitive regarding budgets and is an academic first type and believes athletics is the burden of the alums and student athletic fees (that is cap for Prairie View by the state legislature).

Unfortunately, we just do not have an effective alumni base in terms of athletic funding strong enough to force the issue whether that is with him or whether that is through donating enough money for athletics in and of itself. Once you have been as far down as we have for as long as we have it is a continuous process to change the mindset and the financial hurdle that exist.

Fortunately, we have tireless group of faculty and administrators as well as small strong group of booster alums that have made a vested interest along with some coaches lately, but without the financial resources, that I am aware of, it is really amazing that we are able to do the things we are doing in all sports, considering. It is frustrating. But, I will continue to fight the good fight. I have no other choice, it is what I am suppose to do.

The Band Fan,

I have been tracking this with an interest for THG Agency proposal and attendance numbers for "Classics" have been significantly down across the board this year. I believe it has been said that when Americans catch a cold, African Americans catch pneumonia. We have just been it financially harder and we have less financial resources to recover as fast as others.

it's mainly a football problem because scholarship increases has propelled the spring sports way ahead of most SWAC schools....look at baseball, we've done great things with just the minimum and great coaching and that's going against schools who has had scholarships for years..our baseball program in 3 years is a legitimate top 5 HBCU program that has the ability to become the best if the resources are added to take it to the next level.

we've competed well in other sports also but football takes time, an abundance of resources and you got to know how to work the system due to the large amount of people involved. When Eddie Robinson got up in age....the behind the scene things he done was neglected and that's why Gram's talent level was below par....Doug got in there and worked the system and the program was there...LC Cole knewe what to do but if you got people who don't see eye to eye, a football program won't prosper.

Chris....they must've played the commercial during odd times....never heard it during my drive to work and they gave no tickets away like last year. No posters were seen in Houston like last year.

Why is it only the GSU folks that are claiming this?

We played 11 games last year and no other school beside GSU is claiming this. We have played 2 other schools this year before GSU with SU being one of them and there is no claim to this.

SMH...... :smh:

Interesting indeed - the thoughts of PV's president - as sports have a special power to strengthen colleges/universities both academically and in name. A winning atheltic product can do wonders in the alumni giving area for endowments or any university fund raisers. I am not familar with the Texas university system as the Louisiana system. For instance, both Southern and Grambling meet or exceed the prowess of our counterparts in the Southland conference. Do the Sam Houston, Texas State, and SFA have the same issue with the Texas legislature?

A case study should be presented to the PV president showing the positive effect a solid athletic program can have on the university. Nationally, LSU has not been lauded as an academic jewel like UT or Texas A&M, but the university has taken advantage of the national exposure offered via two SEC championship and national title. The result is LSU has a better academic standing presently as opposed to five years ago.

They have specific rules for funding(well not funding) athletics in the state of Texas. And yes those other schools have the issue.

Maybe we are the only ones that know what it is. Maybe we are the only ones who care. Does Frazier not shake the hand of other opposing coaches? Grambling can only probably claim that too. Frazier is a short, cry baby with no professionalism, the sooner you realize that the better.

I agree. They have some of the same issues, but they do not have all of these issues we have. You would really could bored with all the small nuances that add up and make difference in the big picture.

A case study should be presented to the PV president showing the positive effect a solid athletic program can have on the university. Nationally, LSU has not been lauded as an academic jewel like UT or Texas A&M, but the university has taken advantage of the national exposure offered via two SEC championship and national title. I do not think it would make a major difference. Again, Dr. Wright understands and believes athletics is a window into the university. The question is regarding funding. He fundamentally just does not believe that they university should shoulder the load regarding athletic cost and in the state of Texas, the legislature keep an extreme eye on expenditures regarding athletics. He believes the financial burden of athletics belongs in the hands of alums (similar to how LSU, UT, OU, UK {where he is from}, & etc works). None of our HBCU programs, that I have researched, have this type of burden. It is a unique dilemma.

Our students? tuition is the lowest in the state (good thing in terms of attracting students) this is after it was increased this past semester. But it causes our student activity fees to be lower, as well. We have the lowest student activity fees in the state and in the SWAC.

Because of previous presidents some how there is legislation on the table that does not allow our president or the Texas A & M Board or Regents for that matter, to increase student activity fees without a vote from the student body. Prairie View A & M University is the only state school in the State of Texas that has the key legislation piece on the books. The other university presidents can increase student athletic fees to some degree, using some of the money to increase the athletic budget if need be.

We can easily view it is personal issue for you.
