JACKSON, Miss. - Ab Kauuan's 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter lifted Grambling State to a 24-17 victory over Jackson State on Saturday night.
Grambling State (6-2, 5-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) won its fourth straight game while Jackson St. (2-7, 2-2) lost their fourth straight and secured its first losing season since 1984.
Kauuan's go-ahead touchdown run came with 6:19 left to play, five minutes after Grambling tied the game on a 5-yard run by Henry Tolbert.
Jackson State took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a 21-yard field goal from Jaime Salazar, followed by a 31-yard interception return by Cletis Gordon.
Grambling State came back to tie the game at 10-10 on a 31-yard field goal from Brian Morgan late in the first quarter and then with a 19-yard pass from Bruce Eugene to Tim Abney with 10:00 remaining in the second quarter.
Eugene was 18-for-35 for 189 yards and 2 interceptions.
Robert Kents' 10-yard touchdown pass to Torrey Ross with 22 second remaining sent Jackson State into the half, leading 17-10.
Kent finished the game 18-for-35 for 224 yards and an interception.
Both teams combined for 9 turnovers as the game was played during a steady rain.
