Grambling Now Fully Accredited

(Grambling-AP) -- Every program which the Board of Regents requires Grambling State to offer is now accredited by a national agency. That's a total of 34 programs, from music to electronics engineering. Commissioner of Higher Education Joe Savoie acknowledged the accomplishment Thursday during a visit with The News-Star editorial board.
The last to get national recognition were undergraduate programs in drafting design and electronics engineering. The acting head of Grambling's Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology -- Johnny Patterson Jr. -- says it was the first try for either program. He says the department had to make many significant changes to get accreditation. Those included hiring industrial engineers as full-time faculty members and eliminating some programs with low completion rates.
The National Association of Schools of Music recently approved Grambling's undergraduate programs in music and music education.
