STARKVILLE ? A Texas businessman has made a gift of $3 million to create an endowment to allow Jackson State University engineering graduates to seek advanced degrees at Mississippi State University.

Dave C. Swalm, founder of Texas Olefins, a Houston, Texas, manufacturer of petrochemicals, made the gift to MSU's Bagley College of Engineering. Swalm is a 1955 chemical engineering graduate from Mississippi State.

Please explain -

What will 'they' (Mississippi State) be afraid of????

They've had a school of engineering since before Valley was founded (1950). So why would they be afraid of JSU finally getting an engineering program some 56 years later.....

Sounds like a wonderful PARNETSHIP between two MS public universities, working together to keep OUR kids educated in our STATE (without being told to do so by the Courts)...

 to Dave Swaim, MSU and JSU....

Agree 100%

Because JSU will have a Engineering School, that does not threaten MSU, it only provide another avenue to educate those that does not desire to attend MSU.

JSU has several partnerships with MSU. This is great. We have to keep up with things going on at the University.

JSU, need to stay on top of every nook and crannny, especially if there are federal grants awarded to MSU / JSU. JSU need someone on MSU campus watching and making sure JSU get it's fair share of state and federal research dolars...
