Former Grambling QB signs with Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – New UK quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw knew he needed to bring in more competition for returning starter Drew Barker. He officially found that competition Saturday in the form of College of the Desert quarterback Stephen Johnson II.
Johnson, who only emerged on UK’s recruiting radar after Hinshaw and offensive coordinator Eddie Gran were hired in late December, will add much needed depth to the quarterback position after the transfers of Patrick Towles and Reese Phillips. He made his commitment official by signing with UK on Saturday afternoon and will enroll in classes in Lexington next week. The junior-college transfer will have two remaining seasons of eligibility at UK.

Think twice, speak once
Johnson was picking up some steam on the recruiting trail. Once I saw the Kentucky offer I figured he would take that chance to play in the SEC. I had a Grambling guy on Facebook rambling about Johnson coming back to Grambling next year. Of course this was before they picked up the Ole Miss transfer QB.

I don't believe in begging anybody to stay, he would've had 2 years as a starter at Grambling but decided to leave, so goodbye and good riddance. Johnathan earned the starting position and Fobbs wasn't about to bench him after his breakout 2014 season

Dang Kenn. We talked about this guy a few times. You called it though. Too bad he didn't get a chance to play at Gram. We will see how good he is on the FBS level.

"After redshirting at Grambling State in 2013, Johnson won the starting quarterback job prior to the 2014 season but lost his job midway through the season after being sidelined with a high-ankle sprain.Williams had been fired by Grambling State after the 2013 season, and Johnson felt the new coaching staff was not interested in giving him a chance to regain his starting job during spring practice in 2015."

Hey it happens. It happened with Bridge recently as well as the receiver from UAPB who transferred to Memphis and was their leading receiver I believe so it does happen from time to time.

Dude shouldn't have lost his job. He is a beast and earned the job over JW and DJ because he was better.A starter shouldn't lose his job due to injury. Anyway, we are set with Kincaid.
