Coming from a proud 1999 graduate, it really don't sit well with me because there is more to this than what is being told. One, the district is integrated their main focus is the middle and high school but Cleveland High is 60% black. Look we can not force those white children on the East Side. our kids go over there free willing . They have seen what happens when you force a merger like this and that is one thing Cleveland is trying to prevent regardless of what others may think. Is there Racism in Cleveland YES tell me a place it is not and I will stand corrected.This has been an ongoing thing for years and not just in Cleveland. The state has already combined five districts into two here in Bolivar County so Cleveland had to be next. You got to be blind, dumb, and stupid to not notice this in 50 years, really come on. Right! And all this bull about a sub par education that really sets me on fire. I received a damn good education from DEAR OLE EAST SIDE HIGH and didn't have to jump, dance, speak their language, meet their parents, get in good just to be noticed or recognized for good academics. The system is fine just the way it is SEPARATE BUT EQUAL all by CHOICE!!!!

Man, ole man, ole man! Where do I began? That area has been like this for years, but with all of the recent talks about disparity, someone has finally shone the light on the obvious differences that exist. I lived in the Delta (Shelby) all my life. Cleveland is only about 10 miles away. Moved away for boarding school at 10th grade and never went back except for major holiday, birthdays, etc. I see things haven't really changed since I left, and in some ways or much worse.
The schools in Cleveland will still remain segregated. No way in hell will the white people in that area agree to send their kids to black schools. The majority of them already send their kids to Bayou Academy and Sunflower Academy. The only thing that will come out of this merger is a plethora of charter schools popping up enabling white people to weed out the people they don't want to be around.
It's sad, but also in some ways necessary given the historical conditions of the Delta region. That place is oozing with talent, but most of those kids don't have to mental edge and drive to make it out. Either that, or they become dumbed down by the continuous racial undertones that exist in everything from sports, grocery stores, school, proms, etc.

As I said on Facebook and as someone posted above, Cleveland has already been integrated for the longest. All this order does is accelerate the merger of Cleveland High and Eastside as well as the middle schools in Cleveland. The people who can't afford to send their kids to Bayou or NSA are the ones that will be forced to stay in the CSD. I could see the CSD becoming like the rest of the school districts in the Delta as far as underfunding if another GOP governor is elected in 2019
