Fall 2k16 Numbers Prediction

Southern first live performance to refugees of Louisiana storm that evacuated many. Bout the same size maybe a few more than last year.

Seems like every band wants to be deep like the Boom! "If you can't beat them, join them."

Grambling is about the same size as they were last year. I thought i would never see such infatuation with size in the SWAC, that is so MEACish lmao. From the clips i've seen SU is about the same size, TXSU is larger but not in the 200 not 300 range, PV is close to 300. Haven't seen anyone else so i don't know who wants to be like the Boom.

Alcorn

Expect a decrease from last years group. Dr. Murray has gone on record and said Alcorn didn't have a great recruiting season to build on numbers as they had wanted , but that they will be fine. Group was in the top 3 for me in swac bands last year with pv in the 4th spot, but expect a decreased number of (125-150) members in the group this year.

Numbers 125-150 (decrease from last years group)
HAHAHA...laughable......

I told y'all, don't expect much difference in size between the years for us, we pretty much stay around the same size.

Pv look around 250 like I said not 300 like we were told. Nice big balanced sound should be a great year for them.

Have no observed numbers to offer but if this were the whole band it would mean barely any upperclassmen returned. Those white shirts are usually freshmen with he gray being upperclassmen. Stranger things have happened though so I guess we'll find out at the LDC.

Jsu lost heavy numbers in band camp due to budget cuts... Looks like they're a little over 180

Why do folks think bigger is better? LMAO. Hell I would never march more than 192 on the field if I was a band director. 6 company fronts of 32 each is all you need to do any type of drill. If you recruit with specific numbers for each section to maintain balance. You will be fine. All this 250-300 is crazy. Especially in these times when HBCUs are struggling with funds. Actually if you keep numbers in check. You make it more competitive and make for a better band if you ask me.

192 at halftime. 225 in the stands at max. That gives you a whole extra company front or line of reserves in case you have folks quit or have to zip. LOL.

As Doc Greggs would always tell us. You don't need many to do plenty. I would put the 128 on the field all- male bands I marched in at SU against any of these 200-300 member bands. Hell we did. TxSU and FAMU were huge bands in the 80s. LOL.

That's a great formula for SU and the rest of the step 2 bands and all but that's not the only style of drilling. FAMU just tended to be a horrible example of what to do with numbers. I grew up around corps bands as much as show style and 200 plus on the field was nothing. Give me that big rich sound over a band screeching to attain the same volume any day.

What's funny to me though is how numbers are talked about amongst our bands every year. It's like a tradition. But this year I keep seeing these downplaying comments like somebody didn't get what they were expecting. Maybe it's that Dega 450 rumor *shrugs*. Numbers are what they are and not inherently good or bad. It's whether you know what to do with the numbers you have that makes the difference.
