I'm not giving the judge that out. Seems like his mind was made up without any independent influence.Even though the media didn't influence the jury, they could have influenced the judge's decision. If you watch the video in the link below, the media tried their best to help his azz out. And the media along with the police is just now releasing his mugshot. Before now, they chose to show him as some clean cut White boy. Like the legal system, logic is also not the case when it comes to the media.

His mind probably was made up but the media definitely tried to insert its part. Therefore, I can't let them off the hook too.
That judge probably been on the bench for god knows how long, and I seriously doubt a veteran judge has allowed the press to influence any decision he's ever made, especially after a jury has already rendered a verdict.

I agree. I work for a newspaper and the problem is there are few people that look like me. When you don't have black representation in the newsroom, people like us who can check them, things like this happen.
In a strange way, I actually think the photo of the swimmer in the suit and tie is more appropriate than a jail booking photo.
That image -- the young man smiling in a suit -- is a more accurate representation of what a rapist looks like more so than a disheveled, saddened young man in a jail jumpsuit.
A rapist is our neighbor. A rapist is one of our social media cohorts. A rapist is a member of our church. A rapist is a relative. A rapist is a teacher. A rapist is our close friend. A rapist is the All-American swimmer who looks like the boy you would want your daughter to date.
We ignorantly have been fed this archetype of what the Boogie Man is supposed to look like. Any random black man in a hoodie, for example. A buff, tatted up white man with a scraggly beard. Any Muslim is a potential terrorist, the right-wing tells us.
But more often than the Boogie Man is dressed just like Brock Turner.
The face of rape, and rape culture, should be the image of a preppy-looking white guy in suit. That way we can really know who to be wary of.

One of things I tell people is first to find out the ethnicity of the victim. Normally, it is not reported by the police.
The other issue is most want to create a profile on those convicted. Thus, researchers try and to determine a profile type by those that are in prison. Because the justice system is broken this is an unfair determination.

Warner Brothers Record and Time Magazine which are or were owned by the same parenting company helped Dan Quayle and the National Police Association to demonize a whole generation of Black youths by help creating and promoting gangsta rap and then turning around by saying gangsta rap is the main reason why our country's family values are being destroyed. There's nothing like making money on both ends of the spectrum by making others look bad. Their doing is the main reason why a young man like Trayvon Martin can get gun down in cold blood and made to look like the villain.

I am going to play the devil's advocate... I am not saying what the young man did is right but why would a young lady get drunk and put herself in harm's way? I am not defending the white boy because I know that they do so much foolishness and get a slap on the wrist all the time. She is not, "Little miss Goody Two Shoes," either. No, he should not have had sex without consensual on both parts but these women are also responsible for their actions. I am a woman and I will not get drunk or high and pass out in the presence of men or anyone else. He was wrong if he raped her but as women we also must take responsibility for the things we do as well. Personally, I am not upset with the judge's ruling. Kolby Bryant and Mike Tyson (Mike Tyson convicted on trumped upped charges) went through the same thing with nasty skanks. Some women are off the chain when it comes to lying and being deceitful.

True, but fair is fair. You can't sentence one group one way and another group another way. This has nothing to do with the actions of the female, but everything to do with the unfair practices of our legal system when race and money plays a part.

I respect your opinion as a woman and really it is about time women actually state what you just said. Women do have a responsibility for their safety. Yet, this guy should have gotten WAYYYYYYY more time than he did.
Of note....I have had a number of parties at my residences where women got drunk and passed out. Not only did me and my friends put them in a bed but we also made sure nobody went in there and messed with them.
It does not matter if a victim was drunk or high or what "position she was in."
It is always the responsibility of the man to NOT take advantage of a woman who they KNOW is compromised and can't consent to sex.
I don't know why this is hard.
Comments like these, and the judges ruling, are why it is hard for so many rape victims to come forward. And one of the man reasons victims don't come forward is because fear that they will be blamed for being victimized.

I agree with what you are saying but women must also be aware of their surroundings and recognize the risk of certain behaviors. No woman or man deserves to be raped under any circumstances but self awareness is extremely important.
I know a black guy who is locked up today because he and the victim were drunk and had sex. He does not remember her giving consent and she does not. Yet, witnesses say they had been making out the entire night. She woke up the next morning naked in her bed and he was passed out on the floor of her room naked. People are trying now to get his sentence overturned. He was sentenced to 25 years.
Most victims of rape are preyed upon by men they know. So the notion that victims should have been aware of their surroundings is kinda misplaced.

It's not the PC thing to say these days (along with what they wear in the equation) but you are right. Erykah Badu caught all type of flack from feminists for saying that she believes that school uniform dresses should be knee length or longer.
By saying women should be more aware of their surroundings implies that only certain environments are conductive to rape occurring when victims are raped everywhere from a house party where drinking is involved, to a public bathroom, to an apartment alone with someone they know or trusted.
As she should.
We don't demand that teen boys dress a certain way so as to not distract adult female teachers from giving in to natural urges to boink them.
