ESPN did a special on the shortage of black players in the major leagues. Calvin Lester from PVU was interviewd, along with the coach from BCC and Famu. I just caught the last segment, so im not sure who else was on there.

Joe Durant is a complete idiot. You have to work to get the top players majority of the schools in the SWAC have all black teams. I can't even fault Shanks he recruits what he know and what he has contacts to get but to say I can't find kids and I have to fill roster spots is idiotic.....Get off your arse and recruit stop waiting to find out who SU and JSU and PV are looking at then go after. That"I gotta fill a roster" is just a slap in the face. If you know of a black baseball player please don't send them to FAMU maybe he will learn from saying stupid stuff on tv.

In some cases he is right and in others he is off base a little bit. Just like in football and basketball the best black players will got to the larger state school, but also they will get drafted or go to JUCOs. And that will shrink the pool of talent as well. It's hard to recuit a good black player because you got the basketball coach pulling at him and you got the football coach pulling at him. They see a kid who is fast and can jump high playing baseball, those guys will be all over that kid. They will think that kid is wasting his talent by playing baseball. But that kid will probably make more money if he is fast and can jump and throw far in baseball than in football or basketball.

Everybody in the Swac except for Valley doesn't have problems recriuting talented black athletes. If he really wanted them, he could find them.

I use to work with a program and I was basically over recruiting and I have had a data base with close to 200 kids they are out there to say black kids aren't playing in FLA is stupid to say they aren't playing in GA the next closes area they recruit hard out of FAMU is a big name no knock on Ala st. or AAMU can get those guys in baseball wise then all FAMU has to do is make call I am two years from working with a program and right now I got close to 70 emails and have received numerous phone calls about players this year. It's no excuse

I think I figured it out, but next time, could you throw some courtesy periods and commas in there?

I just saw the story on SportsCenter. Puts an interesting spin on something many of us have known for years.

I don't have the historical background of HBCU baseball team like some of you do, but I know that MVSU, Bethune-Cookman and PV were not competitive until those schools recruited white and hispanic players. I'm not saying black players can play baseball or don't want to play, but just how quickly those programs have turned around is amazing considering the fact that 10 years ago those programs were horrible with all black players on the roster.

Can't speak on the others, but take PV off that list. It was even alluded to on ESPN that PV is one of the few successful HBCU programs with a predominately black roster.

Well to make a long story short I said some his numbers are inaccurate. A lot of coaches now have gotten lazy and it is acceptable to have players of other races. A lot of these guys in the MEAC recruit for a month in JUNE and call a couple of scouts and thats it. Scouting for baseball players has become a year around thing they have Perfect game showcases ( Where Melendez say there was only 20 out of 2000 kids which was a lie) up until JAN 15.

Thank you. I was just about to post verbatim what you just said.

I got your point. I was referring to Kendrick's implication that PV didn't get successful until we recruited whites and hispanics. There are no whites on PV's roster, and a few hispanics. That team is at least 85% African-American. They turned the program around by being able to recruit quality African American ballplayers, as opposed to the past, when the talent level we pulled in was drastically inferior, as a whole.

s,

I was at the Rice game last Tuesday and will say without hesitation that the makeup of your team being black is higher than 85%.

Oh it's cool It was a dry joke about using ........................................................................ and ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but yeah other then may two or three guys I don't remember PV having that many Hispanic kids. The kids are there Coaches just have to get out of there butts and find them. Trust it is going to get better in our confrence with Cador already being king for so long but with Robinson(PV) Johnson(JSU) Rey(GSU) and even asst. Johnson(Alcorn). They are going to find the kids. If we get the the two bama schools to get real baseball coaches in there it's really going to get interesting cause both schools are in baseball hotbeds as far as talent.

I was being conservative. BTW, I tried to holla atcha when I saw ya at the PV-TSU series at MacGregor, but as usual, you were pre-occupied.
