Eight-man High School Football

[Everett Pulliam Jr]

Seven private schools in Virginia have formed a 8-man football league.
The Virginia High School League is also considering it for public schools in light of several schools cancelling this season because of a lack of numbers. Other schools are going to try to have a season with around 20-25 boys.

I was just wondering if any of you from other states have any experience with this?

Yes. I covered an 8-man football game here in Oklahoma. Very unique style of play.

When I lived in central Texas a few years back a few of the small 1a schools played 6-man football. I think that may be the equivalent here as I've never heard of any schools in Texas playing 8-man. Of course I could just be out of the loop lol

The smaller level schools, class B and C in Oklahoma play 8 man football. It’s a very interesting game..

I don't think tx-uil sanctions 8-man here. They only sanction 6-man and then traditional 11-man ball.

Yea that's what I thought. I never heard of 8-man, but since 6-man football was new to me until a few years ago, I didn't want to share misinformation.
