Dr. Jimmie James

How so??????? His delivery was always somewhat slightly delayed about 3-5 seconds. Even I was with him in the booth several times when he announced the lines for the dance routine.

WHENEVER he decides to step down. i will miss his classic announcing .......

Ladies and Gentleman..fine tune your sensory aparatus for the Upmost, The Miraculus, The Mertful, The mind boggling...etc etc

He is always know for his use of words............................

This is the part I miss....now when it came to dance routine, someone is better suited for that. But that intro of his cannot be properly duplicated.

Why won't they just record his voice and use it for all times????

Cause Dr. James had to be present to view the show to get a feel for his announcing of the show....

You know that the shows always change..music..drills...etc......................

Yeah I tried to help Dr. James on the dance routine. Taylor had me go with Dr. James in the press box...........

This is the part I miss the most...."Do you hear what I hear? The fans would start cheering! Then you would hear drum cadence, and then the announcer would say, ?Do you see what I see?", then the "Boom" marched in.

LOL. I remember that growing up. But I thought it was Memorial Stadiums game announcer who said that when the Boom was marching in the gate. He would be the one who always said JSUs score and said if the other team had no points. .........ZIP. LOL. He would also say Band......Band....... if the Boom was getting to loud during the game. The 80s were the best. I wonder what happened to that announcer. He was the best in the SWAC.

Prayers up to the James Family....

my mom introduced me to him back when we played JSU in Birmingham(Labor Day Classic).

The regular game announcer during that time was William K. Dease. He was the comptroller for JSU (I believe), and was the husband of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Gamma Rho Chapter, graduate adviser.

I believe they are still in Jackson. I see his wife at national conferences. She's doing very well.

He is still in Jackson, he was also one of the Delta Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha advisers while I was a student at JSU. I saw him at the 2004 Homecoming.

Was there any reason why he stopped anouncing JSU football games. That dude was on point. He just had that voice.

You're right, JR. Him & Dr. Jimmie James were an outstanding combo as announcers.

I remember attending my first JSU game on October 11, 1980 as a Cub Scout.
It was Homecoming against FAMU, and Jackson State won that game 10-zip. We sat in section WW. That was before they made modifications to the stadium.

I have nothing against the current public address announcer, but the previous
one just had that charisma about him.

He has not stopped.....
He has been sick off and one for awhile...........

Dr.James was just honored at the 2006 JSU Homecoming "Get Ready" Reunion which we do every 2 years.....................

:wavey: Sarg, JR was speaking in reference to William K. Dease, not Dr. Jimmie James

Those were the days! I can still hear those bass drums and see the J-Settes march in like clydesdales in my "Boom" memories!:bowdown:

I was talking about the stadium announcer Dease not Dr. James. I knew James was sick. Dease was the one who said do you see what I see, do you hear what I hear when the Boom would hit the gate on the vistors side coming in. He was also a good game announcer. He even had you rolling when he announced somebody's child was lost and they had to come get them at some gate. LOL

I thought Dease was frat, but wasn't positive.

Didn't he leave JSU in the 1990s to take a position with another HBCU? I thought I heard he went to Tuskegee or Morehouse.

He's better than the guy we have now? He does some of the same stuff, I guess he got it from Dease. The guy we have now is good and he gets our fans on our feet if we sitting on our hands when we need to be cheering the team.

That wasn't Jimmie James, that was Bill Dease, our old PA annoucer....

Jimmie James' 'intro' saying went something like, "Stand on your feet and clap your hands!!! Now entering the stadium is that icomparable band from Tiger Land. The sumnma cum laude of bandsssssssssss. The Sonic BOOM of the Soooouuuuuthh!

But I really do miss Dease's deep rumbling voice.....

Bill Dease stopped anouncing games when he left JSU and went to Atlanta and worked at Morehouse College (his alma mater) for a few years...

He and Barbara have since moved back to Jackson (in Woodlea). They are both retired and enjoying their gaggle of grandchildren (5 I think). They attend EVERY football game and can be found sitting in Section E somewhere around rows 13-15.....

I wish Dease was STILL announcing our games....

I had a job during the summer of '81 in Modern Foreign Language when Dr. Barbara Dease was department head and Bill Dease worked in the computer center. I thought she was a load until I met him in person. What a pair! Great people.

I remember those days..his son Billy, my brother and myself used to run and play together back then; and now we all sit together in the same section, and their kids all play together...we've come full circle.

Did you work in that building any other time? I minored in French; Barbara Dease was one of my primary instructors as well as adviser to my sorority. I'm wondering if I saw you in the building.

Course, if you were in the band, we would have marched together at least one year.

CocoaLove, PM me and make me know you...

Phil (Dacon) knows me from when I was little, running around the tower (8th floor), playing with Sarah Fulgham (my dad's sceretary).

And Tsel, Billy K and I played little league together. Dease was our coach. Billy K was the catcher, I was at first base..... I used to have the biggest crush on Mitzi...

Dayum, that's a long time ago.

Hmmm. I'm picturing the eighth floor of the tower. Wasn't Dr. Estus Smith on that floor? I know that isn't your dad. I remember him very well, though. I worked in the public information office with Melvin (can't think of his last name, maybe Miller) during my senior year.

I know Mitzi quite well. She's a couple of years behind me. I remember Billy K. His mom talked about him so much I couldn't help but know him.

I'm not sure if you and I ever paths crossed. You would have been much younger, though. I finished in 1982, and haven't been back too often since then.
