(Reuters) – Apple Inc is close to buying headphone maker Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion, the Financial Times reported.

The purchase of Beats, which also runs a streaming music service, would be Apple’s largest ever acquisition, the newspaper reported. It said the deal could be announced as early as next week. (http://r.reuters.com/cap77v)

Founded by rapper Dr. Dre and music producer Jimmy Iovine, Beats Electronics primarily produces products under the brand “Beats by Dr. Dreâ€￾ and competes with headphones made by Skullcandy Inc, Sennheiser Electronic and Bose Corp

Personally, I never liked Diddy's music but I respected his hustle. I loved to watch "I want to work for Diddy," even though it was a knock off of "The Apprentice" for the simple fact that that every assignment was made to grind & hustle from scratch.

As for Dre, I think about how far he's come at every level. Even when he left Death Row with an unfavorable deal that had Suge Knight ridiculing him, look at him now.

Even when I go back and look at his video, "Been there, Done That," I'm like man he's on yet another level. I guess Detox is never coming out now.

You got some good points there. At least he didn't make his wealth by selling slaves (as a lot of old US companies) or running bootleg whiskey...like a famous family and NASCAR did.

Him and Jimmy are majority owners. Three years ago, they brought the manufacturing back in house from Monster audio. Earlier estimates put him at 35% ownership.

The problem is we don’t know exactly how much of a stake Dre holds in Beats Electronics. I'm definitely happy for him, but you know most people that listen to rap music try to make it seems like that rap artists are bigger than what they are. I'm sure some knucklehead wannabe rapper is out there saying, "Dr. Dre is about make $3.2 billion", which is the only thing our knucklehead kids are hearing. I would love to see the actually deal acquisition.

Are you sure? He was rapping long before he was millionaire. I guess you are too young to know when N.W.A. got started. I worked with a woman for the City of Los Angeles who knew Andre before he was Dr. Dre. But I'm sure you think his business skills is what made N.W.A. popular back in 1986.

He was DJing with World Class Wrecking Crew before that and showing up to DJ contest in those weird costumes. NWA was popular mainly because of Dre's production, E's vision and Yeller's Greed. He left and made Deathrow then left and made aftermath. Being a good rapper doesn't get you pass 100 million.
