Can the NCAA really cut California off from titles?
Mark Emmert's warning to the state of California seems like a bizarre turn in a battle where both sides have some leverage.

This has always been problem. I don't think you have to pay college athletes but the ban on people profiting off of their likeness quite frankly goes everything a free market country stands for.
The NCAA doesn't want to share the money. In one of the most significant strikes against the National Collegiate Athletic Association's system of amateur athletics, California lawmakers have approved a bill that would allow players in the state to profit off their name, image and likeness.
The adoption of the bill is likely to set up a battle between California lawmakers and the NCAA as the legislation heads to the desk of Governor Gavin Newsome.
The association fiercely opposed the measure. NCAA President Mark Emmert went so far this summer as to insinuate that California institutions would be excluded from championship games if the bill was approved.
California passes bill allowing athletes to be paid for name, image and likeness

It's going to be very interesting come signing day. The NCAA Organized Crime Association will try to put pressure on Cali.
It's a wrap now. NCAA will not be able to put that cat back in the bag. Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina and i'm sure many others have either already filed bills to do the same or are about to. States will have no choice but to do the same if they want the top athletes. Way too expensive to live there but one thing about California is they dont give a DAMN when it comes to being progressive.
My question is how will this inevitable trend affect Schools in the SWAC and MEAC as we are also trying to attract top talent? When there is money on the tablet for that talent, will we even be a consideration?
Under the Fair Play Act the schools don’t have to pay the athletes a dime. The athletes would only get endorsement money. For example if that sporting goods shop in downtown Grambling wanted Hickbottom to endorse their business they would be able to pay him to do so.Remember it is state colleges.....this will have a resounding effect on state's budgets. Especially cash strapped states.
Watch what happens when schools start negotiating athletic apparel contracts.
Also, start naming buildings after companies for a yearly check to pay the college student athletes.
Unifroms would start looking like WNBA uniforms with all the advertisements.
You didn't even read the bill huh? LOL Schools wouldn't be paying the players.Remember it is state colleges.....this will have a resounding effect on state's budgets. Especially cash strapped states.
