Dish or Direct?

I am just trying to get some info about which sat. is better. Dish network and direct TV offer virtually the same channels, but direct has the NFL Sunday Ticket.

But which provides better service? I have heard that Direct TV is not the best to have when the weather is bad, any problems like this with Dish Network?

Any info would help.....

you basically summed it up yourself... their basically is no difference besides DTV has exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket.

about the weather and signal... BOTH are sattelites and can be affected. Both dishes are made the same folks... lnbs also. Dish and DirecTV only provide programming, they dont provide a signal... thats all on the dish and how the dish is installed. MOST professional installers know what they are doing..... try to do it yourself and thats where the signal problems come in.

Thanks...for the info. i think I know where I was going, but still wanted some opinions. I really wish I could just get Cox cable back. I was very happy with their service....but that is just not an option in these parts, and I had comcast! Hate it!

What's uverse?

Not a fan of them either. I have this local service here called Metrocast, which I heard is owned by Comcast and they're horrible too. I'm thinking about turning it off and getting Direct TV

Service provided by ATT. All digital of course. Its phone,internet and cable. Signal comes in on Cat 5 cable (network cable). Cat 5 is supposed to produce the best picture compared to coax. Then you can run everything to your receiver,tv ect via hdmi. Good picture, sound and features. Only drawback the waiting list for installation is horrible and the availability is a little shakey in some areas.

I like Dish since you can program shows to come on at their regular times and it will change the channel automatically. With Direct you have to program it to record, I hate that part of it.
 
I see the only way I will still have BET J is with Direct TV, and neither carries VH1 Soul....that is disappointing. The only thing working in Dish's favor right now is that i can bundl it with my phone and internet....

Cost wise, they are basically the same.

ZB, if installation is suspect, and availability is an issue, then I know it won't work for me. We don't even have AT&T as a possible phone provider in the area that I live, so I am sure that it won't be an option I can use.

Understandable....the technology is so new they dont have enough installers, techs or the infrastructure to run it in someplaces.....it should catch up in a year or so......
 
I did DirecTV after falling out with Time-Warner, who was the predecessor to BrightHouse. The only problem with the satellite service was that I live in the thunderstorm capital of the US and rain/clouds meant no signal.

Then...along came VerizonFIOS. I'm :happydance: :jump: :happydance: :jump: :happydance: :jump: :happydance:
 



That is my worry dacon, I live in B-Ham, and thunderstorms are thr norm in this area too! But I will deal with it to get rid of Comcast.

I feel ya on getting rid of comcast. I had them and was not impressed with the picture quality of their HD channels. I've only lost signal during torrential rains at night.

It will take a VERY STRONG rain to knock it out. In 3 years, mine went out over 2 minutes ONCE and that was in a tornado warning.

not true...... professional installers install both tuners. Direct tv you can program from the net or the even your cell phone. Iphone and Blackberry both had the app for it.

Whats not true about it?

I mean if I want to see a certain show every week at a certain time with DirectTV I have to tell it to record that show specifically. I have to constantly remember to record it to get that show to come on every week. I forgot to update it for Rescue Me and missed the first 10 minutes of the show. With Dish I can tell it to change to that channel at that time every week without having to record it or program to record.

We have it at work (split the monthly cost) and the installer didn't get our 2nd tuner installed, he said something about them getting some type of splitter that will utilize one cable to split and go to the 2nd tuner.
 
Boooooo!!! Hissssssss!!! At you Uverse subscribers. I will withdraw my hate when AT&T gets their stuff together and get my neighborhood connected. :mad:

Either you have a first generation DVR or you arent doing SOMETHING right....When I had my DTV I had the option to set my tv to change to that station at a time without recording the channel.
 
Well I won't have to worry about the system DVR. I have TIVO, and will renew that subscrition once we are settled it. It will record anything I can think of at all times.

I could be mistaken but the last I heard about U-verse was that it required fibre to the curb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTTH) which isn't implemented in most places. I remember seeing a map of u-verse availability in Houston once and it was just this thin little line around the Barker-Cypress area.

When the infrastructure is in place I think you will see a big explosion in IPTV. I believe Microsoft has their offering waiting and the Xbox360 is already a set top box for the service.

We got the latest one that came out last year and the instruction manual sucks. Can't find out how to do anything with it.
