Dish Network

Just had to Chime In.... Da Hill talked me into DirectTV. I live in an area with lots of trees and the street name makes reference to that. The technician came out and looked/surveyed with the conclusion of no line of sight for the dish receiver. He offered a "Second Opinion" and I went for it. I did a lot of soul searching and researching before making the decision along with having huge discussions with my husband and children. I am really tired of cable because in the "ville" there is not enough "Knee Grows" for cable to offer the other black channels along with Oxygen and G. Garvin Cooking Show. While comparing cost for me it is not any savings but I get a lot more for the same money. I know I will benefit from the DVR because just seeing Oprah and the other shows I miss will be benefit enough.

Direct TV. TiVo is addictive though. It will have you in front of the TV for hours, never missing a show.

Say it again.

Especailly if you program it to automatically record programs it thinks you may want to see based on your viewing habits. :scared:

we get the MOST complaints on that function... Its called TIVO SUGGESTIONS..... its already on as a default when you first get your tivo... and is supposidly automatically pays attention to the programs you watch the most and starts to autimatically record "LIKE" programs. Say for instance you watch alot of Denzel Washington movies, it will start to record everything with Denzel Washington in it... same for sports. I think the Tivo suggestions should be turned OFF as a default and customers should have to turn it on IF they want it. It would save us a LOT of phone calls.

Oh believe me, I am familiar with the option. I like it!

I think the reason why its default is set to on is because many people still wouldn't understand how it really works just by reading it in the user guide.

Well in the coming months I will be leaving DishNetwork myself for this new Digital service that is coming available in my area. Will offer unlimited calling in the 601/769 area code and long distance for the phone, from 62 to 130 channels of digital video feed, and unlimited 512/512 high speed internet. I don't watch TV much so it will work out great for me.
Oh and the plans start as low as $113.00

DISH Network adds NFL Network to lineup

(Sept. 12, 2005) -- EchoStar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) and NFL Network announced the DISH Network satellite TV service now offers NFL Network as part of the America's Top 120 programming package.

http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/8837251

Dish is about 6 years LATE on this one.....DirecTV's Red Zone channel shows the best plays every Sunday AS THEY HAPPEN... and the two game mix channels let you watch up to 6 games on one channel.... also Direc TV is the only provider with EXCLUSIVE rights to the NFL Sunday Ticket.-

I am enjoying Direct TV. I saw our ladies Volleyball game. I am addicted to TiVo .......catching up on all of the "New York Undercover" series :slap: !
The family is addicted also....caller ID displayed on the TV is cool too! I am having problems right now with the computer(DSL) interferring with the TV signal. Anyone having this problem....I need a fix. Telephone repairman came out and said it was not in the telephone line.

Smiley,
I had a co-worker that had that problem. He upgraded his TV Cables. He upgraded to Monsters because of the better shielding.

The town north of Dallas changing their name to DISH, was the dumbest siht I ever heard of.

Here is the deal, DISH Network would give any town or city free basic Dish satellite service for 10 years, if the place would change its name to Dish.

DISH Tx, could have gotten a better deal than 10 years of free basic service. I would have waited until they said free for Life and I want all channels including their 6 porn channels.

I was like you dumb fcuks, it is going to cost you more changing the name of the town than it would have to pay for the service.

Would you change your first name for 10 years of free satellite service?

U are too silly...

I saw that on the news, night before last.

I just got DISH installed at my house. The HDTV service is great. I tried the cable HD, but it isn't really HD. I'm just waiting on somebody to give me $189.00 so I can buy the NBA package.

thats probably one of my favorite features lol

Other than ESPN2 HD

Caller ID on your TV screen

and the NFL Ticket

Why should I leave Dish and switch to Direct TV

DISH offers more HDTV channels than Direct TV.

DISH is the better value for me.

The reciever I have from DISH offers Caller ID, but I didn't turn that feature on because I don't want the ID popping up while I'm watching TV.

DTV is launching a sattelite in the next month or two and will have more HDTV channels than any other service....
like I have said on another post there REALLY isnt that much different between Dish and DTV.... I talk to customers all the time that say they switched from Dish and I also talk to customers all the time who say they are leaving and going to Dish... so really the NFL Sunday Ticket is the only "real" difference. I have "heard" that DTV prices are better though, but I dont know any of Dishs package prices. I get every channel(NBA League Pass, Sunday Ticket, MLB Extra Innings, NHL Center Ice, Professional Soccer Package, etc) possible free so it really wouldnt matter to me :)

it would but I dont have a HD tv..... Im not really a big tv person, so a regular flat screen does me just fine.

It took me a minute but I had to read the book to turn the "suggestions" off. CJ, how can I stop recorded programs without using the "exit" button or waiting until the program ends? Does this make sense?

That urks me to no end... I hate that the remotes don't come w/a stop button..WTF.

Trina, there's a button on the remote that will allow you to go back to the main menu...can't think of what it is right now, though. I'll have to wait until I go home and look at my remote. It'll give you several options...one of them being able to stop recording.
