That's no excuse.........................But on the field there are only 11 guy's playing at a time and they only have 33 to choose from.

Other 1-AA teams from other conferences have no problem beating these D2 teams.
Teams like Montana, Georgia Southern, etc., don't have any better talent than we do.
They just kick arse while we stumble with outdated schemes.

With them joining the SWAC, I can see all of our teams getting better for the simple fact that they would be coming in busting our heads to the white meat in just about everything. Have any of you followed them outside of football; they got a real athletic department. Would be good for the SWAC!!

They just like the football team up there.

Their basketball teams....................ESPECIALLY the womens........... are no joke.

There is not and has not never been a big difference between the SWAC and GSC football contrary to what you may believe....difference is they have alot of national championships and the SWAC doesnt.

North Alabama is good.
I know about them from the fact they play Delta State and used to play Ms. College back in the day.
North Alabama is another D2 in this region that would kick teams in this conferences arse.

The Gulf South Conference is a power in D2.
More than a few of their teams would be he!! in 1-AA.
Like Dahill said......................Don't let the D2 moniker fool ya'll.
 
GSC is a good conf. Jacksonville St. use to kick butt in the GSC, but when they moved to 1AA they went to being an average team.

Someone mentioned the number of scholarships(33) at the D2 level........Don't be fooled.....When you average out the grant-in-aids and other scholarship money, your competitive D2 programs are about even with most I-AA programs that don't give the full 63 scholarships anyway.

Most of your D2 football rosters have about 80-90 players listed....

Delta State buried by the pass

Grand Valley's quarterback throws for six touchdowns, knock Statesmen out of title hunt

ALLENDALE, MICH. ? Another Mississippi miracle wasn't meant to be.

Despite holding a decisive 10-minute edge in time of possession during the game, Delta State's long drives couldn't hold off the potent quick-strike offense of Grand Valley State and quarterback Cullen Finnerty.

Finnerty's four touchdown passes in the first half and six for the game were enough for the Lakers to sink the Statesmen's championship chances after a 49-30 victory in an NCAA Division II semifinal Sunday at Lubbers Stadium.

The 11th-ranked Statesmen, competing in their first Division II playoff since 2000 and coming off a convincing 27-10 upset of North Alabama in the quarterfinals, end their season with a 12-3 record.

"They took it to us pretty good, although I'd be less than candid if I didn't say this wasn't our best effort," Delta State coach Rick Rhoades said. "It wasn't our night, and we really had a hard time getting in sync offensively, defensively and kicking."

The top-ranked Lakers (14-0) move on to face Northwest Missouri State in Saturday's championship game, the fifth time in six years Grand Valley has reached the final round.
