I disagree. I don't ever remember hearing Mrs. King speak negatively of anyone in public, even though she had many opportunities to do so, she didn't. She was above reproach!

Did they speak negatively of anyone or did they state what she was for or against?

This was no place for political agendas. God will not be examining Coretta's political agenda. Furthermore, my father was a Republican, a POW and supported the Republican agenda because of their decisions when it came to health care for the military during his (my father) time of service. By the way a POW in the Hanoi Hilton (where John McCain was).

If some fool got up there, and by the way my father passed away 2 months and 4 days after Sept. 11., if some fool got on stage to take pop shots at Osama or any body else I would have acted a damn fool on them afterwards.

Now that being said let me share with all of you what did happen...my father spent 31 years in the Army. He wanted a military style funeral. That known, by protocal the military enters before the family in the processional. Do you know some people confronted my mother and asked why....she said talk to Mark he is the man of the family. They asked me and simply put I stated...You have no right to question me on the procedures that took place today.

In short this was a place of remembrance...not a political event. Bush came to pay his respects. Leave it at that and don't speak on what Coretta wanted because she was not able to answer. FYI...Wal-Mart's CEO attended the funeral and she hated Wal-Mart's policies on women.

I know how you feel DSN. My father worked as a chemist for a large chemical company for over 20 years. If someone would have showed up at my father's funeral to bash the chemical industry because certain people were in attendance, I would have had to ask that they be escorted out.

I found the political statements to be inappropriate. There is a time and place for everything. To reduce Mrs. King's home going service to a bash Bush political rally was out of line.

Right statements. Wrong time.
I totally agree Cat Daddy and I think that's why President Clinton reminded everyone that there was a funeral going on. Hell, I don't like Bush; but I commend him for attending. I know he had to feel uncomfortable in a place with that many powerful blacks, but at least he showed up this time. I would love for the same white and black political figures to hold a rally addressing the issues of the economy, injustice, tax credits for the rich, the war in Iraq, and Katrina recovery, but not at a funeral just because the deceased is a Civil Rights Leader and the audience is 90% black.

Well phuggin stated. It doesn't matter how "right" they were (which I don't think they were right), all that matters is that it was the wrong phugging time and place to do it.

Most if not all of those statements were approved before hand by the King Family. Please don't think they didn't know what they were doing. Look at who was allowed to speak and who was not... ( ie Sharpton and Jackson) come on people REALLY:rolleyes:

What??????
I don't quite understand what you are saying.
Are you saying they knew the subject matter of each speaker????
What are you basing that on????

If that's the case...it's blood comments...just like blood money....I be damned if I let someone use my mother's death as a platform....sickening.
Yeah,...I'm with you on this one.
This was a funeral.
A celebration of the life of a beautiful spirit. I personally think it is tacky to invite people to a service of this kind and then turn around and roast them. Put your differences on the shelf and focus on your common interest,.... the home going of Ms. King.
Do that on another platform.

Her life and her family was a platform. This was not your avg family, their life are politics their life is about calling the a spade a spade.

Hmmm,.....
Another good point however,....you could have made the same effective political point by not inviting him all together.

You are right her life was a platform....but what happend to coming together as not just a race of people but as a world? This was a funeral to celebrate her life...not to take pop shots at policy....like the Bible says there's a time and place for all things....this was not the time. This was some people with their own personal agenda.

Anyway leave my damn soapboz alone.

I think it would ONLY be appropriate IF they had the approval of the KING family ahead of time.
Jagwar, I think Toia said that earlier. It was approved by the King family before hand.

Sweetman, get your head out your butt. The celebration took place at Ebernezer Church. They sung, danced, and whatever else Mrs. King enjoyed. This one was about business. It was about addressing issues Mrs. King stood and fought for. The family didnt have a problem with the program and they were the ones that arranged the program. That is why the apologized to certain speakers that did not speak "Toia's post". You may have seen this as an inappropriate place for what was spoken, but the King family deemed it as the right place, the right time (period). Now, we can go around this over and over, but the King family approved of it, it was done, and now it's over.

AGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!

Their entire life was surrounded with politics...how can you come here now and not mention it? Please! Hell, many did not know that was an opera singer....so how many could talk about that. WE KNOW THEM BECAUSE OF POLITICS............If they could not mention it in HER funeral, they may as well have had a private funeral for just family.....HER LIFE was politics...

I agree. I watched each of their faces as those speakers talked...not one of them whenced or cried aloud when ANY of the speakers spoke...In fact, I remember them clapping and standing.

Using someone's death to bash another's political stance is sickening. Hmmm Church and State.

No one said anything when it happened at Rosa's funeral or at any other political figures funeral, **** they did the same thing at the Pope's funeral so why is this any different?

Also this was the second funeral that was held for her the first was very private family and friends only.
