College Football in the Spring? What do you think?

SMU Head Coach, June Jones believes its a good idea for smaller leagues to play in the spring, instead of trying to compete with the big boys in the fall.

Here's what June Jones had to say . . .

"I think the have-nots [non-Power Five leagues] should go ahead and move to the spring just like the USFL did," Jones told WDAE-AM on Thursday. "I think that there's an opportunity to do a complete other side of that division and I think that if we don't think that way as a group of have-nots, we're going to get left behind."

Others vehemently disagree. See full article below . . .

hmmmmm.. I don't like the idea but it WOULD help me out little with eliminating games like Savannah State vs Oregon and JSU vs MS State.. :lmao:

But I think football is a fall sport and it would kill college bball.

But lets say that JSU and Grambling played on a Saturday at 2 PM in Memorial. Would the fans and the bands then travel across town to see JSU-Grambling play bball? It could have some good and some bad aspects but I think all of that would take some getting used to!

One word ........Graduation, and we won't even get into what it would do to our Classic games.

Won't happen but they are going to have to do something.

The only slim chance I see of them staying relevant (outside of a lawsuit which some school will do sooner or later) is when they expand the playoffs to 8 teams that they send an undefeated team in and beat them (that and beat them in regular season as well)

There are those who feel that college basketball should move its start date to after the bowls/football playoffs are complete . . . but that's a whole 'nother subject . . .

May Madness doesn't have the same ring as March Madness

Then that would put a big time dent in softball and baseball's ratings.

It could.. and again, I am not for this.. but I think that if we did this and the SWAC had home games on the same day as baseball or bball games, it could actually boost attendance. Imagine for Alcorn homecoming, they could have a football game at 2PM .. then girls bball game could start at 5:30..

Alcorn could play a baseball game at 2 PM while everyone is tailgating and have a football game at 6/6:30. This wouldn't help JSU a lot but I see it being a big deal at some other schools who have stadiums on campus..

....and I am not saying I support this and I can't see it ever happening but I can see good/bad in the move.

At what time should they be really hulkering down, to get ready for graduations?

You comment makes no sense becasue they should be trying all year and 70% of the team are not seniors trying to graduate anyway. BUT that does lead to an interesting point. A lot of young men would lose a whole season if they graduate in December.

its dumb move that will hurt the other sports. Some of these lower level BCS football schools are major players at the Div 1 level in other sports, and moving football to the spring will hurt those sports. NCAA Div 1AA, II, III, NAIA, and JuCo have all coexisted with Div1 on Saturdays for years. If they can do it, then so can these non-Power 5 schools. The first thing they have to admit is that no matter how they see themselves, they are not on the same level as the Power 5 conferences.
