Clarence Thomas Supreme Court CHIEF JUSTICE?!

Man, it just gets worse & worse for the TSPN liberals! with at least 4 supreme court justices soon to leave the bench and be replaced, Clarence Thomas could become the chief justice. This is where the election REALLY has an impact. Bush will get to appoint at least 4 supreme court justices. Now true, the dems can sabatage his appointments, but the reps will probably gain even more seats in the upcoming midterm elections and further offset the dems ability to filabuster, sabatage and generally harrass Bush. Just not a good 8 year run for the liberals (especially black TSPNers) politically. Take heart though TSPNLer,, at least ole oj-imean Clarence is black,, :swink:

What's new? I don't have a problem with uncle Clarence if you black repubs don't. They need to reverse Roe v. Wade. As usual, power corrupt. The repubs will over reach.

stop already with "uncle" bit (unless you were saying that in jest, as sarcasm). Clarence is who he is even if that means not being in lock-step with everything the black liberal establishment wants. If the black/liberal/dem message resonates more with the masses, there will be no "uncle" Clarences. apparently the messege doesn't resonate and so there is an "uncle" Clarence. no matter what you gloss ole Clarence, he could be supreme court chief justice and affecting our and our offspring's lives for generations to come. das MASSIVE "scoreboard" for your ass yo, bottom line.

First of all, I'd like to see Thomas as Chief Justice. Even though I disagree with him on the issues, it would be nice to see a Black as Chief Justice. And since he can't be anymore conservative than the current chief, its not a big deal legally.

But you're wrong about Bush appointing 4 Justices. Its gonna be more like 2 or 3. We know Rhenquist is leaving, along with O'Conner. John Paul Stevens is 85, but he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. The rest aren't going anywhere unless something unforseen happens. Looking at the net gains, I don't see a big windfall for conservatives. Basically you'll be replacing a swing vote(O'Conner) with a likely conservative. Unless Bush appoints Alberto Gonzales to the bench. He's more moderate than the Scalia, Thomas, Rhenquist faction.

So don't get your hopes up too high. 4 years from now, you Bushies will be looking forward to a Democratic president and looking back at a rare oppurtunity wasted.

99, are you sure he's black? Maybe in skin color. Bush owes the religious right big time. Thomas would be a gift. There is nothing progressives can do about it. Dodson, Falwell, Jones, Robertson and others have sent word that they expect action this time instead of talk. The white evangelic churches gave the Bush campaign their membership lists and they delivered. No bones, they want the real thing this time. Read Bob Jones letter. Listen to Dodson. They intend to remake this country and take it back from the "pagans". They have taken over the Repub party whether Bart and other will admit it or not. Did you see their reactions to Arlan Spector's comments regarding his role on the Judiaciary Committee? I am going to enjoy the continuation of the cultural war. They will turn on each other before it's over.

Thomas as Chief? :goof: Oh well. Socio-economically, he's close to being libertarian, which isn't so bad to me. But, some things he does seems to have a PERSONAL swipe at protections that were created after the Civil Rights Act for minorities. I don't think he would be a dynamic chief, maybe more of a chief who could keep the court from being conservative activist. (cuz, Scalia IS a conservative activist)
